Official — Florentino Issues a Statement after Carles Miñarro’s Passing: ‘RIP’

Real Madrid has acted quickly after learning the reason for the postponement of Barça-Osasuna.

The surprise came this Saturday night, confirmed minutes before the scheduled start that the match between FC Barcelona and Osasuna was suspended. Initially, a "force majeure reason" was cited, until shortly after, the death of Carles Miñarro, Barça's first team doctor, was confirmed.

Carles Miñarro passed away this very Saturday, unexpectedly and without anyone anticipating it at the age of 40. It happened at Barça's team hotel: he had lunch at noon and then went to his room to take a nap. Unfortunately, he did not wake up again, prompting Barça's request to postpone the LaLiga match.

Already in Montjuïc, Laporta informed Barça's locker room of Carles Miñarro's passing, generating surprise and great sorrow among the players. Osasuna readily accepted the postponement request, and LaLiga gave the final OK.

Florentino Pérez's response was not long in coming, always quick in such unfortunate matters. The president of Real Madrid quickly issued a statement:

"Real Madrid CF, its president, and its Board of Directors deeply regret the passing of FC Barcelona's doctor, Carles Miñarro García.

Real Madrid wishes to express its condolences and affection to all his family, his colleagues, FC Barcelona, and all his loved ones.

Rest in peace."

Carles Miñarro passes away at 40

Carles Miñarro passed away at just 40 years old, having joined Barça's first team this season from the futsal club. He joined the club in 2017, after six years as an Assistant Doctor of the Sports Assistance and Preventive Unit at CAR of Sant Cugat. He combined this role with being the head of medical services at CE Sabadell (from 2014 to 2016).
