Goodbye to 30 Years of History: A Famous Chain Has Already Closed in the US

After years of history, this well-known chain is ending its journey in the competitive U.S. market

For years, names like McDonald’s, Burger King, or Wendy’s have dominated the fast food landscape in the United States. In such a competitive environment, there were other proposals that tried to carve out a niche with very different ideas. Some of them managed to make a difference, although not all survived the test of time.

One of those different proposals was EVOS, a brand that from its inception wanted to distance itself from the classic fast food model. Its philosophy sought to offer something different, with its own identity that appealed to an increasingly demanding public. Now, after more than thirty years of trajectory, the company has reached its definitive closure.

A proposal ahead of its time

Founded in Tampa in the early 90s, EVOS was a chain of burger joints that stood out from the start. Its creators, Michael Jeffers, Dino Lambridis, and Alkis Crassas, sought to offer a healthier option within the fast food world. Their menu included hormone-free meats, organic shakes, and air-baked potatoes instead of fried ones.

In addition to its nutritional plan, EVOS company claimed to have a strong commitment to the environment. According to its leaders, all locations used sustainable materials, recyclable packaging, and renewable energy. This philosophy was part of its identity as a brand that, in the company's words, offered a “feel great food” experience, meaning food to feel good.

The brand managed to expand to more than 20 locations in states like Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina, according to La República. It especially attracted those looking for a different experience from the big franchises. For a time, it found its place in a very competitive market, with a loyal clientele concerned about their health.

The end of an era for EVOS

Despite its innovative vision, EVOS couldn't withstand the push of the giants in the sector, financial difficulties, and the pressure from established brands were too much. In April 2025, its last three restaurants, located in Carrollwood, St. Petersburg, and South Tampa, permanently closed their doors.

With the announcement of the closure, Michael Jeffers shared a farewell message on behalf of the EVOS management team. He thanked the support received over all these years and assured that they had taken measures to protect the staff. “We leave with no regrets,” he said, making it clear that the project had been an enriching experience.

The closure of EVOS marks the end of a project that, for three decades, tried to change the rules of the game in the world of fast food. Although it couldn't stand against the giants of the sector, its legacy as a pioneer in healthy eating remains. And perhaps, in part, it helped inspire the changes we see today in other larger brands.
