Veteran journalist Roberto Gómez is part of what Joan Laporta calls "sociological madridism," which others disparagingly refer to as the "media cavern" or "central lechera" ("the milk company").
Roberto Gómez appeared last night on El Desmarque Madrugada, precisely to distance himself from the prevailing opinion in the capital regarding the Dani Olmo issue.
Roberto Gómez Distances Himself from "Sociological Madridism"
Unexpectedly, the journalist considered a Madridist appeared to lend a hand to Barça and Dani Olmo. He was disappointed about the dark intentions of the haters who wish to see Olmo in the stands.
Roberto Gómez aligned with an opinion trend that doesn't match the one that has become widespread in Madrid but also exists and is shared by millions of fans.
While waiting for Barça to activate a miraculous leverage to raise the 60 million needed to regularize its financial fair play, Dani Olmo won't be able to play in any competition. Not even the Champions League.
What is a disappointment for Spanish fans in general is a cause for celebration for the usual Barça haters. In this case, they wish to see Dani Olmo in the stands.
This is not the case for Roberto Gómez, who was very clear in his presentation and expressed what many think about the issue:
The Extremaduran journalist began like this: "Look at the little faces of Irene, Siro, and Pablo, who are celebrating."
The Barça Haters
"All because one of the best Spanish players in the last 25 years, who is also returning to LALIGA, can't play."
The mentioned ones jumped at him: "Oh, so Roberto is one of those who wants to do whatever it takes for Barça to register him." These were the words of Irene Junquera.
This was Roberto Gómez's reply: "Not for Barça. For a Spanish player who has made the effort to come and be able to play."
Roberto Gómez added: "You're wating like crazy for hours to pass, watching the clock. How little respect you have for the players. And then you say you love interviewing them and saying how good Olmo is..."
Siro López defended himself: "We're waiting like crazy for the law or the regulations approved at the time to be enforced."
Roberto Gómez Misses the Solidarity among Clubs
Gómez referred to the "special situation" of some clubs and how he missed the solidarity among Spanish clubs:
"Don't forget that Spanish soccer has four teams that are going in a completely special direction: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Athletic Club, and Osasuna, which have a special regime.
"What you should be concerned about is that there should be solidarity, as there should have been at the time to prevent Messi from leaving.
"Everyone had to help Spanish soccer so he could stay, and now Dani Olmo. But you celebrate this more."
It is evident that Roberto Gómez swims against the current in an environment where there's a lot of animosity toward Barça.
