Now free fom new England manager Thomas Tuchel, Joshua Kimmich's life at Bayern Munich has taken a radical turn.
Eight months away from becoming a free agent, Kimmich is now leaving open the possibility of staying at Bayern by extending his contract.
On the one hand, Vincent Kompany, the new Belgian coach of the Bavarian team is responsible. His methods have seduced the German international, who now feels more comfortable in Munich.
Kimmich's Call to Hansi Flick
But Hansi Flick has also had a hand in this radical change in Kimmich's life.
Kimmich knew that getting closer to Barça could only have positive effects. Either he would go to Camp Nou and earn more money or he would get Bayern to raise his salary.
It will be the latter, because Kimmich called Hansi Flick, his former coach at Bayern and the national team, and was disappointed.
Flick told him that Barça works differently. The youth academy is a priority and there at La Masia there are talents that are destined to make history in soccer.
He gave the example of Lamine Yamal, but also those of Cubarsí, Fermín, Gavi, Balde... as well as Casadó and Marc Bernal, home-grown footballers with very high level.
Kimmich's Position is Well Covered at Barça
These last two players play in Kimmich's position and have made his transfer unnecessary, given his performance.
Flick told Kimmich that his position is already well covered at Barça and that he prefers to spend the money from the transfers on other positions that are currently more vulnerable.
Kimmich was stunned. With the door to Barcelona closed, everything indicates that he will end up signing the new contract that Bayern is offering him. He will do so as soon as possible, because by January 1st he'll be able to negotiate with whoever he wants.
All these months of trial and error with Barça were initiated by Xavi Hernández. From them, Kimmich will benefit from a more generous contract with Bayern Munich .
