Xabi Alonso Asks for a $17M Signing to Help Dean Huijsen: Goodbye to Antonio Rüdiger

Xabi Alonso insists on strengthening the defense with an affordable signing who has Real Madrid DNA to provide a replacement for the veterans

Xabi Alonso has already started to leave his mark at Real Madrid. Although he hasn't sat on the bench yet, his requests are starting to be fulfilled. The arrival of Dean Huijsen, who promises to be a center-back for the future, has been one of the first.

The signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold has also been key, a strategic move that strengthens the right flank. But that's not all. Álvaro Carreras and Franco Mastantuono could be next; Xabi Alonso's revolution is just beginning.

Pieces are missing in the defense

Despite the good pace in the market, the Basque coach believes that one more center-back is needed. Injuries have punished key men like Militao, Alaba, or Nacho. Both Rüdiger and Alaba himself are already in the final stretch of their careers.

That's why Xabi has proposed a name who knows the white house well: Mario Gila. A Madrid youth product and now established at Lazio, he could return to Bernabéu for 17 million euros. An accessible option that fits with the new manager's plans.

Mario Gila: The chosen one

Gila was one of the most promising center-backs from La Fábrica. His move to Serie A allowed him to grow. At Lazio, he has earned a starting spot and his performance has attracted the interest of clubs like PSG.

In fact, the Parisian club would be willing to pay 35 million for him. But Madrid has an advantage: they keep 50% of his rights. If PSG buys him, they would receive almost 18 million without lifting a finger.

Perform or collect?

There's the dilemma. Bringing Mario Gila back would mean having six available center-backs, the ideal number for Xabi Alonso to implement his three-man defense. With Dean Huijsen and Mario Gila, he could try new tactical variants and ensure rotations.

However, the sporting management also values the financial option. Selling Gila without bringing him back would provide an immediate profit. But at what cost? Satisfying Xabi could be more profitable in the long term than a quick sale.

Florentino has the final say

For now, the decision is in Florentino Pérez's hands. Xabi is clear: he wants Gila in his project. He's young, cheap, and with potential; besides, he already knows the house.

The center-back's future depends on whether the club prioritizes sporting planning or financial gain. If one thing is clear, it's that with Xabi in charge, Real Madrid is going to change. They'll do it from the defense.
