U-turn with Xabi Alonso: The Latest Update Changes Everything at Real Madrid

'Nothing to Decide,' Says a Xabi Alonso Whom Real Madrid Practically Considers Ruled Out for 2025

Xabi Alonso had pointed to this March 27 as the key date to make an announcement about his future. This was hinted by his entourage to the major media outlets in Germany, starting with the "BILD", where this day was marked as important. It has arrived, and the reality is that the Basque hasn't said anything because he has no announcements. His contract expires in 2026 and he doesn't seem to have any intention of leaving the project.

Xabi Alonso, Doubts in the Real Madrid

When asked about his future, Xabi Alonso replied: "I haven't made any decision... The situation has changed compared to last year because I've been here for another season, but there hasn't been any change. I was in Spain last week, yes, but I haven't talked to anyone. There's no deadline. My thoughts are the same.  I'm still focused on this season, we're in a key phase. We don't want to speculate about anything beyond soccer".

Comparing this situation to last summer's, he concluded: "It was different. There was something to decide and now there isn't. That's the difference".

Xabi Alonso: Goodbye to the Real Madrid?

The man from Tolosa has been clear, publicly stating that he has nothing to announce because there's nothing to decide. His contract with Bayer Leverkusen expires in 2026, just like Ancelotti's with the Real Madrid. Beyond the rumors, so far there hasn't been any move from Florentino to negotiate his arrival.

This means that, if everything continues as it is, Xabi Alonso will stay in Leverkusen, and Carlo Ancelotti will do the same in Madrid. In the Real Madrid they don't want to make any hasty decisions and believe that the Italian has enough credit to wait until the end of the current season. After that, depending on the results, we'll see.

In any case, Xabi Alonso seems to have hinted that his future is decided. He doesn't announce anything because there's absolutely nothing. He has a firm agreement, ending in 2026, and now it doesn't seem like he's going to leave, not even to go to the Real Madrid. Florentino opens the door for him, but with conditions and always waiting for Ancelotti.

An Ancelotti who has once again sparked the interest of the Brazil national team, trying to break out of its current losing cycle.  Only the Italian's departure would allow Xabi Alonso to coach the Real Madrid, although, right now, it seems complicated. There's a clause in his contract with Leverkusen and Florentino would have to pay it.
