In the premiere of his new show Romário TV, Neymar Jr. has decided to speak openly about his relationship with Kylian Mbappé, the former star forward of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
In his statements, the Brazilian unveiled some aspects of his bond with the young Frenchman, revealing details that were previously unknown. Amid laughter and anecdotes, Neymar was also clear about the tensions that arose in the team after Messi's arrival at PSG.
The Beginning of a Promising Relationship
According to Neymar, the relationship with Mbappé started very positively. From the beginning of their time together at PSG, the Brazilian and the Frenchman shared a great friendship. Neymar always helped his teammate, highlighting his talent with jokes like "Golden Boy," which emphasized his potential.
"At first, when he arrived, he was essential for the team. I called him "Golden Boy" and joked that he would be one of the best in the world. I always helped him, we talked, he came to my house, we had dinner together. We had good years of companionship," Neymar commented on the show.
The Change in Attitude after Messi's Arrival
However, everything changed when Lionel Messi arrived at PSG in 2021. For Neymar, this was the turning point in his relationship with Mbappé.
According to his words, the Frenchman began to feel sidelined upon seeing that Messi, one of the great figures in world soccer, held a prominent place on the team. This change in PSG's soccer landscape seems to have significantly affected Mbappé.
"We had a little fight. Then, when Messi came, I think he felt sidelined, he didn't want to share me with anyone. He changed completely and the fights started," Neymar explained.
For the Brazilian, this feeling of jealousy or insecurity from Mbappé was key in the tension that arose between them. From that moment, the jokes and closeness that existed between them began to fade, giving way to disagreements and distancing.
Ego as a Decisive Factor
Neymar pointed out that, in his opinion, ego was one of the main factors that contributed to the breakdown of his relationship with Mbappé. The young French forward, who at the time was considered the star of PSG, couldn't handle the competition from Messi. According to Neymar, Mbappé's egocentricity was an obstacle for their relationship to continue in the same way.
"Ego doomed him," Neymar assured, referring to how Messi's arrival and the struggle for supremacy on the team triggered tensions. This reflection from Neymar shows how egos and competitiveness in high-level teams can affect relationships between teammates.
