Luka Modric will finish the season with Real Madrid at 39 years old and will start the next one at 40. It won't be with Real Madrid, however.
Real Madrid Will No Longer Count on Modric Starting Next Season
Luka Modric has already told Florentino Pérez that his future is not at Real Madrid. The club doesn't consider him as an essential part of its future either. Still, he'll always have the doors open to continue working for the club in any other capacity than that of a footballer.
Real Madrid is not counting on Modric as a player for next season. Even so, he remains convinced that he still has a few more years left, at least one.
He's made a commitment to Cesc Fàbregas, the Como coach, to be part of his team next season.
Como experienced moments of euphoria last summer following its recent promotion to Serie A. The presence of Cesc Fàbregas made it possible for them to sign veteran players such as Pepe Reina, Sergi Roberto and Alberto Moreno. There were also young players with a great future such as Nico Paz.
However, after a spectacular start to the season, results have gone awry. Como now finds itself at the bottom of the table, very close to the relegation zone.
The Only Condition Modric Put to Cesc Fàbregas
Modric was delighted with Cesc Fàbregas's offer. He was mainly thinking of his family and the possibility of living in one of those spectacular villas bathed by Lake Como. He was also taking himself into account, naturally. After playing in the Premier League with Tottenham and in La Liga with Real Madrid, he still had to play in the Italian League.
However, Modric was very clear to Cesc Fàbregas when he shared his condition. He would be happy to go to Como as long as the team stays in the league and plays in Serie A next season.
Como tied 2-2 at Venezia last matchday, but has now gone through nine games without a win. Como hasn't won since 29 September, when they beat Hellas Verona at home.
