Today there was a joint meal for the board of directors prior to tonight's match between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund at the Bernabéu. A very curious situation arose during the event.
Institutionally, the relationship between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund couldn't be better. The two clubs have made numerous transactions in both directions, the latest being Bellingham.
Dortmund's Question has Shocked Florentino
The meeting was chaired by president of Real Madrid Florentino Pérez and CEO of Borussia Dortmund Hans-Joachim Watzke.
The relationship couldn't be better. That's why the Dortmund boss asked Florentino Pérez a logical question, given the circumstances.
Watzke knows that Arda Güler is not getting any playing time at Real Madrid. He also knows that, at 19, the Turk is a real jewel on the market.
He had nothing to lose by asking. If he doesn't play for Real Madrid: "What is Arda Güler's price?" Watzke asked Florentino Pérez, who wasn't expecting such a direct question.
However, Nuri Sahin, former Dortmund and Real Madrid player and now coach of the Germans, had already hinted: “Arda Güler is different. I want him to be very successful. I hope to be his coach one day.”
Florentino Takes Note of Dortmund's Interest
Watzke didn't achieve his goal of returning to Germany with Güler under his arm. He has, however, managed to deliver the news to Florentino Pérez . Should he seek a loan for the player, Borussia Dortmund would be willing to accept it.
Florentino Pérez told the Germans that Arda Güler is out of the question. Real Madrid expects a lot from him in the coming years, even if things are not going well for him at the moment.
In any case, Florentino has taken note of Dortmund's interest in case a decision has to be made regarding the Turkish star when the winter transfer window arrives.
So far, only Fenerbahçe has submitted a formal offer to sign Güler on loan until the end of the season.
