Fabrizio Romano Makes Nico Paz’s Big News and Future Official: ‘Madrid…’

Real Madrid makes a decision regarding Nico Paz's future that directly impacts sports planning

There has been much discussion about the future of Nico Paz in recent weeks. At 20 years old, he has just completed a great season at Como and has been drafted to the Argentina national team. He is a true star and on Real Madrid's table was the possibility of bringing back its academy product. The price, negligible: only 8 million euros. However, the decision has been surprising, with Florentino deciding to leave him in Italy for at least one more year.

Madrid confirms its decision with Nico Paz

In the past few hours, Fabrizio Romano has announced on his X account that Real Madrid has definitively confirmed its decision. There has been a call to Como to formally communicate that the buy-back clause will not be activated this summer, declining the possibility of paying eight million to bring Nico Paz back now.

This way, although there has been much talk about his possible departure, Como plans to keep Paz this summer. Half of Europe has wanted him and Real Madrid has been alert, but in the end he will continue with the Italian club. Everything could change next summer, with the buy-back clause rising to 9 million euros.

The factor that changed everything

While Nico's return seemed a matter of days before the Club World Cup, Madrid completed an unexpected signing: Franco Mastantuono, River Plate's gem, almost 18 years old. Florentino Pérez executed his clause and secured one of the most promising talents in Argentine soccer.

His arrival, together with the presence of Arda Güler, Brahim, and other young attacking players, changed the sporting plans. Xabi Alonso understood that he wouldn't be able to give all of them the minutes they need to develop. The one most affected has ended up being Nico Paz.

The club made a clear decision: not to bring the Argentine back this summer. Not for lack of trust, but to avoid hindering his progress. As of today, Real Madrid is full of young talent, and there is no room for everyone.

The agreement with Como includes two future buy-back clauses.  In the summer of 2026, the white club will be able to bring him back for 9 million euros (€9M), and in 2027, for 10 million (€10M). It is a long-term project and, for now, nothing is ruled out. Nico Paz could wait until next year, with another season of development and ready to return to Real Madrid.
