David Alaba Makes It Official! He Confirms His Team for 2026: ‘I’m Going to Play for…’

Alaba has been clear about his future: He has no doubts and has chosen his team for next season

Real Madrid hasn't stopped since its return from the Club World Cup, continuing with the planning of its squad for next season. On the table, the name of David Alaba has gained special importance, and he has quickly tried to clear up his future. The Austrian defender has a contract until 2026 and one of the highest salaries in the squad, which is a real problem due to his limited importance at present.

Termination for David Alaba

Alaba's situation is complicated, and Real Madrid has tried to find a solution. Weakened in recent years by injuries, his high salary is a real problem at Santiago Bernabéu. That's why  Ramón Álvarez de Mon has revealed that the Madrid side tried to reach an agreement for the termination of his contract, something that was previously done with Eden Hazard.

Despite this, David Alaba's response was clear at all times: he had no intention of accepting it. The defender's plan is to fulfill his contract with Real Madrid, which will end in 2026. After that, it's most likely that he'll end up leaving, with no intention of renewing his deal.

The Austrian center-back has no doubt: he believes he can get back to his best. He has no doubt about it and chooses to stay at Real Madrid. He has had significant financial offers to play in Saudi Arabia or Qatar, but the idea of continuing at Bernabéu has always been on his mind.

Marked by injuries

The 2024-25 season has been one of the most difficult in David Alaba's career. At 33, the Austrian has barely been able to help Real Madrid due to a series of injuries that have left him practically out of action for the entire campaign.

In total, he has only played 14 official matches, totaling 599 minutes across all competitions. This is a very poor record for a footballer of his stature, who is used to being an undisputed starter both for the white team and for his national team.

The club values his experience and leadership, but  Xabi Alonso wants to renew the backline with younger profiles and competitive rhythm. Meanwhile, Alaba keeps the intention to stay and fulfill his contract with Real Madrid, although his situation has completely changed compared to previous seasons.

His recovery is progressing well, but  the challenge now is huge: to feel like a footballer again and regain the coaching staff's trust. David Alaba wants to show that he can still be important, but he knows that the competition will be tougher than ever.
