Ancelotti was Right! He Doesn’t Fit: Xabi Alonso Accepts His Move to Getafe

The new Real Madrid coach doesn't count on him either, and a new destination has been found for him in La Liga

Real Madrid doesn't want to waste time and continues shaping what will be its squad for the 2025-26 season. After having played in the Club World Cup, Xabi Alonso is clear about which players he wants to keep and which ones he doesn't in his renewed project. On his return from the United States, he hasn't taken the opportunity to grab a few days of vacation, but has instead kept working tirelessly.

So far, Xabi Alonso has managed to bring in four new signings. Although he'd like one more to strengthen the midfield, everything seems to indicate that no one extra will arrive. With things as they are, now work is being done to lighten the current squad, with several professionals who could leave as they don't have the approval of the coach from Tolosa.

Ancelotti was right: he's going to Getafe

A year ago, Carlo Ancelotti was heavily criticized by a significant sector of Real Madrid's fans for letting academy product Mario Martín leave. The Spanish midfielder went on loan to Valladolid after a great season with Castilla, and the truth is that his performance hasn't been enough for him to return.

A year later, with a coaching change included and after being at the Club World Cup, Mario Martín will once again leave Real Madrid. Once again, he'll do so on loan, but this time he'll change destination, heading to Getafe.

Mario will play next season at the Coliseum, with Getafe having secured a purchase option in the deal. He has had several important offers, but the Spaniard has considered that the best thing for his development is to go with Bordalás. He plays a style of soccer that suits him and where he feels very comfortable.

Mario Martín says no to Ancelotti's son

Knowing that Xabi Alonso didn't count on him at Real Madrid, Mario Martín has analyzed different offers over the past few weeks. He'll play at Getafe, but Botafogo also wanted him, a team now coached by Davide Ancelotti, Carlo's son.

The deal didn't progress enough because the midfielder has always wanted to stay in Spain to keep developing. Mario Martín will be at Getafe next season, trying to evolve his game and carve out a place in the top division. The deal is completely closed and it's expected to become official in the coming hours, with all parties being on the same page.
