If you have this car model in the United States, you could be in serious danger.

Some Corvette models face a serious risk that could endanger their drivers

Chevrolet has raised the alarm again. The brand has announced a massive recall of its Corvette Z06 (2023-2026) and ZR1 (2025-2026) models in North America. The reason: a fire risk while refueling. Yes, you read that right—a problem that can endanger its drivers.

What is happening with the Corvette Z06 and ZR1?

Everything centers on the cooling system. The side radiators and the left-side cooling fans of the car could allow gasoline or flammable vapors to come into contact with hot engine parts. This increases the risk of fire.

GM hasn't given all the details, but reports indicate that at least two incidents have already occurred, with minor injuries. Two incidents may seem few, but for a car of this level, they're enough to trigger an immediate market recall.

How does Chevrolet plan to fix it?

Chevrolet is working on a quick solution: a shield or insert that will divert the dangerous vapors. When it's ready, it will be installed free of charge at dealerships for all affected owners.

Meanwhile, the brand asks drivers to take extra precautions when refueling:

  • Don't overfill the tank.
  • Stop when the pump trigger clicks.
  • Turn off the engine while refueling.
  • Make sure the nozzle is properly inserted.

These are basic measures, but now more important than ever.

Why only the Z06 and ZR1?

Although all Corvette C8s have the fuel tank in the same area, only the Z06 and ZR1 have those additional radiators and fans that can cause the problem. The "normal" Corvettes aren't at risk and aren't included in the recall.

A blow for an American icon

The Corvette Z06 and ZR1 are more than cars; they're symbols of Chevrolet. They're competitors to European supercars, but more accessible. A recall due to fire risk isn't a minor issue; it's a direct blow to the heart of the brand and to owners' trust.

What should owners do?

First, check if their car is included in the recall. This can be done by entering the VIN on Chevrolet's website or on the NHTSA's site. The recall numbers are N252514930 (GM) and 25V536 (NHTSA).

Until the solution is available, it's recommended to be extremely careful when refueling and to follow the safety instructions to the letter. Prevention is key while Chevrolet works to fix the problem.
