U-turn with Marc Guiu, nobody expected it: 1 year later, he returns to Barcelona

The forward left Barça a year ago to start a new chapter in England with Chelsea

Marc Guiu has experienced a first year at Chelsea with more highs than lows. He arrived there at the end of last season from Barça, after the club paid his €6 million release clause. As soon as he landed in London, rumors about his departure began, but he ultimately ended up staying. In England, he has played five matches across the Premier League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup, totaling 174 minutes.

While his records in English competitions are dismal and unworthy of a 19-year-old professional who should be playing, things are different in the Conference League. This has become his competition of choice, having played 7 matches and scored 6 goals. Right now, Chelsea don't plan to keep him and are looking to loan him out for next season, with one destination in mind: returning to Barcelona.

Espanyol, keeping an eye on Marc Guiu

Amid the "war" for Joan García, it seems Espanyol want to get back at Barcelona. This is the plan they have for Marc Guiu, a striker they've been following for the past few months. Manolo González has requested to strengthen the attack for next season, especially if Javi Puado, the captain whose contract ends on June 30, leaves.

Madrid-Barcelona has learned that Marc Guiu is open to this possibility, returning to Barcelona and being close to his family again. Even though he's a big Barça fan, he believes that the option of playing on loan at Espanyol could benefit his career.

Marc Guiu is unsure at Chelsea

He signed for Chelsea with a lot of enthusiasm, but little by little he became disillusioned. The blue project doesn't quite fit him and he doesn't feel comfortable there. The already crowded position he has occupied this season will be joined by other signings in the summer. One will be the Englishman Liam Delap, whose transfer will exceed €30 million.

Guiu knows that he can't compete with the footballers in his position and is considering a departure. Espanyol offer him a place where he could be important, living in Barcelona again and being able to get regular playing time.

At the moment, nothing is finalized, but the option of seeing Marc Guiu in an Espanyol jersey is gaining momentum.
