Gerard Romero warns about Joan García, surprise at Barça: 'Closer to...'

The Jijantes journalist provides the latest update on the possible arrival of the Catalan goalkeeper at FC Barcelona

The saga of Joan García continues and the rumors don't stop. Although at Espanyol they see it as practically impossible for him to wear the FC Barcelona jersey, reality seems to be different. In a video published on his YouTube channel, journalist Gerard Romero, founder of Jijantes, has delivered a surprise. In it, he states that "the feeling" is that his response could end up being "positive" for culer interests.

Gerard Romero, blunt about Joan García

"Joan García's file remains open, and it'll stay that way for a few more days. Everyone's pushing: Barça, Espanyol... and the kid is in the middle, deciding his future," Romero began to say.

In the video, he continued: "Joan García has Barça's offer, it's one of the best both financially and in sporting terms. He's still making his decision. We're told that, during yesterday with the Catalan national team, it felt like his response could end up being positive. He seemed closer to being able to accept Barça's offer."

In this regard, he said: "The big question he has isn't what people will or won't say, it's what the situation will be in FC Barcelona's goal. Szczesny has accepted the renewal and it's yet to be seen what'll happen with Ter Stegen. Will Joan García be ready and prepared to compete with him for the starting spot? Could Ter Stegen consider looking for a way out? Will the door open for a loan?"

Finally, Gerard Romero concluded: "These are the unknowns. The feeling is that he could be a little closer to Barça, but that doesn't mean the signing will be finalized. We've already seen how these sagas end: one day yes, another day no."

Joan García, between 2 teams

After deciding to leave Cornellà, Joan García has only two possible destinations on the table. One is FC Barcelona, which has already discussed everything with his agents for a five-year contract. Meanwhile, the other interested party with options is Newcastle, which is offering him a lot of money and the opportunity to be a starter in the Champions League. Rumors suggest he'll take the next few days to decide, setting Monday, June 2 as the "deadline."

It's yet to be seen what'll happen with the Catalan goalkeeper, but there could be a surprise, as Gerard Romero has said. Barça hasn't thrown in the towel yet and believes his signing can be completed. If he ends up giving the "yes, I want," his €25M clause would be paid immediately.
