U-turn with Ansu Fati. Laporta Tells Him: 'You're Staying at Barça, but...'

The youth player's situation takes an unexpected turn, and his future points to staying and renewing with FC Barcelona

Barça is planning the squad for the next season and Ansu Fati's name is highlighted on the table. With a contract until 2027, he is one of the highest earners on the team and also the one who plays the least. It is necessary to "regularize" his situation and Laporta has thought of a special plan for him: it is complicated to find him a new destination, so his renewal is on the table.

Ansu Fati: Laporta Prepares the 'Umtiti Formula'

What Laporta wants is to lighten the wage bill, and this could involve a renewal for Ansu Fati. Next season he is expected to earn 12 million euros gross, while in the following one it would be 14. The situation is not simple, having 26 million euros guaranteed over the next two years.

"Sport" has discovered that one possibility would be his renewal for three more seasons, as was done with Umtiti in 2022. In Ansu Fati's case, his contract could be extended until 2030, distributing the 26 million he has guaranteed over the next five years. This would allow the impact of his high salary on the wage bill to be lightened, allowing other moves in the market.

Considering this structure proposed by Joan Laporta, Ansu Fati would earn 5.2 million euros per season, plus the extra part offered by Barça. This would make his salary no longer the third highest on the team, being only behind Lewandowski and De Jong.

Ansu Fati, Complicated Future at Barça

Ansu Fati renewed his contract at the best possible moment for him: being one of the young players with the most projection in Europe and inheriting Messi's '10'. The problem is that injuries have not allowed him to explode as expected, posing a serious obstacle for Barça in terms of salary.

What Ansu Fati earns now is what was expected for him to earn being already one of the best players in the world, something that has not ended up happening. Not only has he not exploded, but he is someone who doesn't count for Flick, who leaves him out of the squads practically match after match.

It is complicated to find him a new destination with his high salary and the little he has been playing during the last few months. The situation is extremely complicated and Laporta has proposed this alternative: a new agreement like Samuel Umtiti's, ensuring him a place to play and distributing the salary he already has agreed upon.
