FC Barcelona plans to lighten its squad by taking advantage of the winter market.
There will be no transfers, but even so, the blaugrana club needs to reduce costs in its wage bill. It'll do so with three players who aren't in Hansi Flick's plans.
Months ago, Laporta attempted a big sale by trying to showcase several of the heavyweights of his team. He was looking for a windfall of 80 million.
However, neither Araújo, nor Frenkie De Jong, nor Raphinha nor Lewandowski accepted Laporta's proposal and defended their contracts, instead.
Three Dismissals by Hansi Flick
Now Laporta will try with three players of lesser caliber, but whose departure will mean a relief for the battered finances of the club.
These are Eric García, Ansu Fati, and Pablo Torre. None of the three are in Hansi Flick's plans and all three are expendable.
The problem with Eric Garcia is that, with the return of Araujo and Christensen, he is left without a place in the center of defense. In midfield, he has no place as a pivot because Casadó is already there for that position. What's more, Gavi and Fermín can also play it.
Barça will try to get between 15 and 20 million for his transfer and Girona could be his final destination.
Ansu Fati has exhausted all opportunities. Injuries continue to plague him and his contribution to the team is very poor. The club is willing to grant him his freedom and Sevilla is best positioned to take him.
Pablo Torre, meanwhile, hasn't been able to earn Flick's trust, who gave him many opportunities during the pre-season. Villarreal and Real Sociedad have shown interest in his services.
There Will be No New Additions
Barça needs to lighten its line-up and, due to their young age and quality, the three can quickly find a place in other teams.
No one will arrive in the winter market to replace them. The technical secretariat has agreed with Hansi Flick to bring in new players from the youth division of the club.
This way, Flick reduces his team in a special way. He would be avoiding the presence of players with a marked substitute nature who don't promote competitiveness during training sessions.
