"These episodes have been happening for 100 years, I don't know why they're surprised." These are the words of Cholo Simeone when he was asked about a possible penalty by Real Madrid against Celta that the referee didn't call.
"Things Said Just for the Cameras"
Those words ignited Carlo Ancelotti and some of the players from the white team, like Dani Ceballos, who replied to the Atlético coach.
The Madrid coach gave Simeone a direct message: "These are things sometimes said just for the cameras. Everyone in soccer is aware of what Real Madrid represents now. Everyone knows what Real Madrid has represented in these 125 years of history (?).
Everyone in soccer is very clear about it. I suppose they might be thorns that hurt," said Ancelotti, referring to the two Champions finals that Atlético lost to Real Madrid.
Dani Ceballos, meanwhile, was blunt in his reply: "He hasn't gotten over the two finals he lost with Madrid."
"When They Were on Another Team, They Thought Differently"
Cholo Simeone replied today to both, exposing them. He had something for both: "I never comment on what my colleagues say. I refer to memory.
"And when one goes to memory and remembers that match against Bayern... Those statements by Ancelotti were a consequence of what happened on the field, not for the cameras.
"Ceballos, too. He made the same statement when he was at Betis. They're doing very well, they're a great team... However, when they were on another team, they thought differently."
Simeone has a better memory than Ceballos and Ancelotti. The first was tired, when he played at Betis, of referees always making mistakes in the same direction: Real Madrid.
The second was furious when his team, Bayern Munich, was eliminated by Real Madrid from the Champions League under very strange circumstances.
Ancelotti complained about the classic refereeing of Hungarian Viktor Kassai, who sent off Arturo Vidal without any contact and thus decided the fate of an overtime at Bernabéu. Additionally, Cristiano Ronaldo scored two offside goals.
Ancelotti's Rant against Favorable Refereeing to Real Madrid
"There are decisions that have punished us a lot. Arturo's (Vidal) red card wasn't a card; then, the two offside goals by Cristiano, obviously we're not happy with that. In the Quarterfinals, you should have a referee with more quality.
"We need to tell UEFA to implement video as soon as possible. Although I don't need to see the video to see that Vidal touches the ball."
"I saw it live. There are too many mistakes." And he threw a "good job" at Kassai.
POSTPARTIDO / Carlo Ancelotti / Real Madrid 4 vs Bayer Munich 2 / Uefa Champions League 2017
This is the same Ancelotti who now accuses others of making excuses to look good for the cameras.
It seems Ancelotti was also a victim of the 100 years of "glory" of Real Madrid that Simeone talks about. Not the 125 that are yet to come.
