Ronald Araújo Defends Himself Against Criticism by Pointing to His Teammates: 'They Also...'

Tension After Barça's Elimination Against Inter in Europe and Statements That Don't Go Unnoticed

Barcelona's elimination in Europe left open wounds. Not just because of the result, but because of the manner, it was an intense duel, with emotions, mistakes, and much subsequent analysis. One of the most pointed out names after the match was Ronald Araújo.

A Difficult Entry

The Uruguayan center-back was not a starter. He entered in the second half, when the team still had hopes. He replaced Iñigo Martínez and, minutes later, Inter found two key goals that sealed the tie.

Araújo was an involuntary protagonist in both plays. On social media, in studios, and in discussions, there was talk of a lack of forcefulness, poor reading, and mistakes unworthy of a defensive leader.

Araújo's Response

Far from avoiding the cameras, Araújo faced the media in the mixed zone. With a serious demeanor, but without losing composure, he replied to those who blamed him directly:

"Do you think I lacked forcefulness? In the first one, I'm marking him from the front... and in the second, in soccer, there are also coverages and these plays are solved."

The phrase made his stance clear: the error, if there was one, was not solely his. He pointed out, elegantly but directly, that there were more responsible parties in the play. The coverages failed, the system didn't react, and the opponent, a powerful and well-prepared Inter, didn't forgive.

A Complicated Context

Hansi Flick didn't have an easy night. The absences in defense forced the coach to improvise. Without his trusted full-backs, he opted for less usual players like Gerard Martín and Eric García, the defensive mechanism was not solid.

Araújo, who was coming off physical discomfort, didn't have time to adapt to the pace and Inter, with Lautaro and company, knew how to exploit every weakness.

Dignity in Defeat

Despite the blow, Barça didn't fall with shame. They showed pride, attitude, and heart. It was a tie worthy of the greats, Inter showed their class, but Barça didn't look out of place.

Araújo's reaction can be understood as a human reaction, from someone who feels the jersey and wants to defend his work. He didn't point fingers, but he did remind that soccer is collective, and so are the mistakes.

El Clásico on the Horizon

There is no time for regrets, Real Madrid awaits on Sunday. El Clásico comes at the worst moment, but also as an opportunity for redemption. Araújo knows it, and if the Uruguayan has anything, it's character.

Soccer always offers revenge and his, perhaps, is closer than it seems.
