These last few weeks have been very hectic at Barça. Joan Laporta, faced with the complications that Camp Nou renovations are showing, got to work to find an alternative venue for El Clásico. The contract with BSM (Barcelona Serveis Municipals) ended on March 31 and they had to leave the Montjuïc venue, where the team is currently playing.
Barça was looking for a large alternative stadium to play El Clásico given the difficulties at Camp Nou, but this has changed. Montjuïc seemed impossible, as the Rolling Stones were going to start their big tour in Europe there, but this changed at the last moment. Finally, they won't play at Lluís Companys, leaving it free and being great news for Laporta.
Laporta had encountered a serious problem, but he has managed to solve it. As the Rolling Stones canceled their concert, Montjuïc is now free and Barça has requested to extend their occupancy until the end of the season. Mundo Deportivo has discovered that the final OK already exists and the agreement is expected to be formalized in the coming days, concluding this problem.
Laporta knows it, El Clásico will be played at Montjuïc
Laporta has remedied the problem that had arisen, but the plan remains the same: to return to Camp Nou this season. Limak is working to have it ready with a capacity of about 60,000 people by next May. However, in case it isn't ready, Barça has secured a simple alternative: to continue playing at Montjuïc.
Whatever happens with Camp Nou renovations, Barça will be able to continue playing in their city this season. This problem had arisen, but the Rolling Stones have lent a "hand" with their cancellation. Everything is solved and, barring any turn of events, El Clásico will be played at Montjuïc.
Despite the positive spin, the reality is that Laporta knows that returning to Camp Nou will be complicated this season. In this regard, an agreement is being finalized with the Ajuntament to try to speed up the renovations, which would help advance the timelines. Barça is eager to return to their stadium, but they have secured the lease of Montjuïc for a few more months just in case.
