Barça is already up and running. Last week, the first team players, along with some from the reserve squad, underwent their medical tests. On Monday, Hansi Flick led the first training session and among them was Ronald Araújo. The Uruguayan defender, who was one of the most criticized last season, arrives with renewed motivation.
From criticism to protagonist
Araújo suffered a lot after the mistakes he made in the Champions League semifinals against Inter Milan. His errors at two key moments earned him a lot of criticism from the fans. Not only that, but his family also received harsh messages, but the center-back didn't let himself sink.
During the medical tests at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, Araújo showed a different attitude. With a smile, he said something that caught everyone's attention: "Do you know what you're going to see this year? My prime." For him, this will be his best version and he made it clear that he wants to stay at Barça, his home.

Deco: his biggest support
Deco, sporting director and former blaugrana player, is one of his biggest supporters. He knows that Araújo brings something different to the team. While other defenders have a similar profile, Araújo stands out for his strength and determination.
In January, Deco fought for his contract renewal. Araújo had doubts, not because he wanted to leave, but because of how he would fit into Flick's system. He was even close to joining Juventus, but Deco managed to convince him by promising more minutes, especially after Iñigo Martínez's injury.
Renewal and key clause
In the end, Araújo signed until 2031. With an important detail: his release clause will remain low only until mid-July. Right now, it's at 65 million euros, an affordable price for the top European clubs, but after that, it will rise to 500 million.
This Tuesday is the last chance to sign him for that price. However, everything indicates that he will stay in Barcelona.
Fair play: the biggest obstacle
Barça still needs to comply with fair play to register Joan García before the start of La Liga, on August 17. This may force the club to make moves in defense.
Andreas Christensen is one of the center-backs who could leave. Although he wants to stay, his contract ends in 2026 and Barça needs to free up salary space. The same goes for Éric García, whose contract also expires next year.
A necessary sale
The sporting director was clear: Barça has five center-backs, but one must leave. With Ter Stegen's departure, the club must meet financial requirements to register the new signings.
Extra income is needed, not only to register players, but also to go after a left winger that Flick has requested. The intention is for Araújo not to leave. But in Barça's market, nothing is certain until it's over.
