Not All that Glitters is Gold: Five Players Doing Worse Because of 'Flick Effect'

5 players in the Barça squad have been devalued, according to Transfermarkt's statistics.

The arrival of Hansi Flick has helped to boost the level of players such as Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Lewandowski, Olmo and Pedri.

However, also with Flick's arrival, a number of footballers have gone downhill as their value in the transfer market dropped. In short: they are now worse.

Lamine Yamal, the Most Sought-after Footballer in the History of Spain

Barça wins and is convicing within La Liga, even if it's shown two faces in the two games played in Europe. But the leadership in La Liga leads the coach to be pointed out as the direct cause of several players' performance.

Using the value Transfermarkt assigns to footballers as a benchmark, the one who's benefited the most from the arrival of Hansi Flick has been Lamine Yamal. He's become the most valued footballer in the history of Spanish soccer: 150 million euros.

Yamal is worth 60 million more this season than lastone. Raphinha is back to 60 million, which he didn't have last season. And Koundé is back to 55 million, the value he had before transfer for Barça.

Alongside them, Cubarsí, at just 17 years old, is already worth 40 million. Casadó has gone from 2.5 to 15 million and Marc Bernal from 1 to 5. Fermín was valued at 20 million in July 2024; now he's worth 50 million.

This is the positive side of the effect that Hansi Flick's presence at Barça has had on some players. But there's also the negative side: that of the players who have had their price drop, partly due to injuries.

The Five Players Who have Lost Their Value under Flick

Ter Stegen has gone from 28 to 20 million; Frenkie de Jong, from 70 to 60; and Christensen, from 40 to 30.

Ansu Fati was once valued at 80 million; Now his value is barely 15 million.

Goalkeeper Szczęsny was once valued at 40 million euros on the market. Now, after his retirement and his return, he is valued at just 3 million euros.

Barça's squad is valued at 944 million, 28 million more than last season.
