Neither Arabia nor Manchester: Third offer to Barça for De Jong, surprise destination

The Dutch midfielder could change teams soon.

Barça's plan with Frenkie de Jong is clear: get rid of him if any proposal comes in. Recently, there has been much talk about Saudi Arabia or even Manchester United, but it seems that a new alternative will soon emerge. This will come from Germany, with Borussia Dortmund being a likely destination for the Dutchman due to the recent change on the bench that will take place.

Borussia Dortmund needs high-level reinforcements and has considered Frenkie de Jong to try to reverse their situation. This week, they have dismissed Nuri Sahin as their coach, and everything indicates that Niko Kovac will succeed him in the position. One position they want to improve is the midfield, considering the Barça player to try to raise the level of the team.

Frenkie de Jong has regained some importance at Barça during the last matches, but the reality is that he is considered expendable due to his high salary. Dortmund plans to take advantage of this, and according to the latest information, they could make a proposal to take him immediately, thus strengthening their weakened team.

In this regard, Barça would be willing to part with him for a figure close to 30 million euros. However, they would also accept a proposal to let him go on loan, as long as the other club assumes a significant part of his high salary.

Barça is Looking for a New Destination for De Jong

Joan Laporta has had enough and has made the definitive decision with De Jong. For months, the Dutchman had a proposal on the table to renew with FC Barcelona, but this has changed. Indeed, he had, in the past, because the Barça president has recently decided that the offer is officially considered expired and is no longer valid.

Barça already made him a renewal proposal at the end of 2023, putting a new agreement on the table. The duration would have been extended until 2029, three more years than he is currently signed for.

If De Jong wants to leave, he already knows: open doors. These approaches from Arabia or Borussia Dortmund make it clear that his continuity at Barça is practically ruled out. Laporta wants to take advantage of this and hopes to finalize his departure as soon as possible, as long as the conditions are positive for all parties.
