Maximum surprise with Alexia Putellas, the news comes from Mexico: is it goodbye to Barça?

The captain of FC Barcelona leaves her future in the project led by Pere Romeu hanging in the air

Alexia Putellas is still one of the best footballers at 31. The two-time Ballon d'Or winner, when it seemed she was out a season ago, agreed to renew her contract with Barça. There is a current contract until 2026, with the possibility of extending it for a third season. She is one of the main leaders of the squad and of women's sports, serving as a true cornerstone for FC Barcelona.

Recognized worldwide

The Catalan has kept growing over the past few years, to the point of becoming a true global icon. Wherever she goes, she is recognized and applauded, everyone wants a photo with her and to have a conversation. This expansion of her brand has been remarkable, to the point that she recently opened a new location for her soccer academy: Eleven.

She did so in Mexico, a country where women's soccer has a strong following. Alexia Putellas was received with full honors and even held a press conference, where she spoke about current events and answered some unexpected questions.

Alexia Putellas, to Mexico?

When asked about the possibility of playing in Mexico in the future, Alexia left the door open to a departure from FC Barcelona. "Obviously I live in the present and you know what my present is, I am a Barça player, but I also have to tell you that in the future no one knows what awaits us," she said.

The truth is that in the Mexican league she has good friends and former teammates from Barcelona. The most notable case is Jenni Hermoso, a footballer for Tigres. But she is not the only one, since in Liga MX Sandra Paños, Bruna Vilamala (both at Club América), and Andrea Pereira (Pachuca) also play.

An international symbol

Alexia Putellas has established herself as the leading figure in women's soccer globally. Born in Mollet del Vallès, Barcelona, and raised as a footballer at FC Barcelona, the midfielder has reached historic heights in the beautiful game. With two Ballon d'Or awards (2021 and 2022), Putellas has not only broken barriers but has redefined the role of women in soccer.

Her leadership at FC Barcelona Femení has been key to winning several UEFA Women’s Champions League titles and multiple Liga F trophies. With exceptional vision, refined technique, and an unusual goal-scoring ability for her position, Alexia represents the perfect balance between talent and commitment.

From Madrid to Barcelona, her name is synonymous with respect and admiration. In a country traditionally dominated by men's soccer, Alexia Putellas has managed to fill stadiums and attract record audiences, making history both at Spotify Camp Nou and in international stadiums.

Beyond the field, her image is a symbol of female empowerment, and she has been recognized by global brands and international media. Her impact goes beyond sports: she inspires a new generation of girls to dream big and fight for equality in sports

Today, saying "Alexia Putellas" means talking about excellence, commitment, and passion. A living legend of Spanish soccer who has turned women's soccer into a top-level spectacle, from Barcelona to the entire world.
