In the middle of the debate about Barça's "lamine-dependence", El Chiringuito reported last night on the latest news about his injury.
An Injury Like Frenkie De Jong's
As explained on Josep Pedrerol's program, his injury may be more serious than it initially seemed. In fact, it's being compared to that of Frenkie De Jong.
It had been just a few weeks ago when the Real Madrid press was discussing the possibility that Lamine had faked the injury to be removed from the national team.
His body is still developing and the risks are very high. He's played 12 La Liga games, 4 Champions League games and 4 games for Spain. Total: 20 games in just over three months.
Out of the 12 LaLiga games, he's played in eight of them. In the other four he's played 86, 31, 67 and 76 minutes.
In the 4 Champions League games he's played 80, 75, 85 and 90 minutes... until the injury arrived.
Some people are pointing to an excessive overload of matches for a 17-year-old whose anatomy is not fully developed. He's certainly been one of the most used players by Hansi Flick so far this season.
"Pain Every Time He Goes Out to Play"
This is what José Álvarez explained last night on El Chiringuito:
"Lamine Yamal has a syndesmosis, an injury to the high ligament of the ankle, between the tibia and the fibula. It is an injury that reminds Barça of Frenkie De Jong's, which has been dragging on for a year.
"It's exactly the same injury. Lamine's is first degree. Frenkie De Jong's degree was not stipulated in September 2023, but he's still dragging it around.
"It's a vital structure for the stability of the ankle. Lamine doesn't have a sprain, he is in pain every time he steps onto the field. That's why there's some concern and they are protecting him."
"It is very important for Lamine to recover because of his characteristics, because of his dribbling. It's not serious, but it's an injury that could last longer and become chronic and would force him to play in pain. This is something that we want to avoid.
"Now Lamine is constantly testing himself when he jumps onto the field, because he doesn't have a sprain and it hurts. They've told him to stop so that Frenkie's injury doesn't happen again, as he has been suffering from this injury since September 2023.
"Lamine has been out for two weeks and is expected to return soon, but nothing will be forced on him."
Some users have corrected José Álvarez: "syndesmosis is not an injury, but a type of joint."
In any case, El Chiringuito's statement is surprising. Yesterday Hansi Flick was sure he would be present next league match against Las Palmas on Saturday.
