Jules Koundé Sends a Message After His Injury in Barça-Inter: 'Shocking...'

The French defender was injured in the Barça-Inter match and will miss both the return leg of the semifinals and El Clásico

Jules Koundé has experienced completely contrasting situations in the last few hours: from becoming the hero of the Copa del Rey final, he has now fallen injured against Inter. The Frenchman couldn't finish the first leg of the Champions League semifinals, and tests have determined that he suffers from a "distal injury in the biceps femoris of the left thigh." This means that  he will miss the return leg in Milan, as well as the upcoming LaLiga Clásico.

Jules Koundé, Message After His Injury

In a message posted on his Instagram account, Koundé spoke hours after his injury was confirmed. The Frenchman is disappointed after having completed a season, up to this point, in which he had participated in practically every possible match.

"Very disappointed to receive an injury at this point in the season, when everything is at stake... but sometimes there's only so much you can control. Full confidence that this team will get the job done no matter who's on the field. Thank you all for your support, it means a lot," stated Jules Koundé.

Jules Koundé, Key for Barça

FC Barcelona will face a very tough challenge in the return leg of the Champions League semifinals against Inter Milan without one of their most important pieces: Jules Koundé. The Frenchman, who has established himself as a leader in the culé defense, will be absent due to injury in the decisive clash at the Giuseppe Meazza. An absence that could weigh heavily.

Koundé has been indispensable for Barça this season. He has played 52 official matches, in which he has scored 4 goals and provided 8 assists, notable figures for a defender. His versatility, anticipation ability, and clean ball distribution have made him a key player for Hansi Flick, especially at full-back, where he has been undisputed.

With the Frenchman out of action, the German coach  will bet on Eric García as his replacement. The Catalan center-back, converted to full-back, performed at a high level in the first leg when he had to replace his teammate due to injury. Jules Koundé's absence adds to the challenges the team will face in Milan, having to win after drawing 3-3 in the first leg.
