Jonathan David Sends a Clear Message to Deco and Barça: ‘I would Like to…’

The Canadian's contract ends on June 30, and his dream is to wear FC Barcelona's jersey

It is public and well-known in Europe that Barça is looking for a '9'. For a long time, one name that has been on the table is Jonathan David, an international for Canada. He has made the decision to leave Lille, where he is an undisputed starter.

He can go wherever he wants when his contract ends on June 30. At 25 years old, he wants to make the leap to a big club and has not hesitated to offer himself repeatedly to Barcelona.

Jonathan David only thinks about Barça

Taking advantage of being with his national team, Jonathan David has spoken about his future in some interviews. The forward has been clear, pointing to Spain as his ideal destination due to his conditions.

"The Premier is much faster and more physical than the rest of the leagues but, in my opinion, I grew up watching many LaLiga matches and it's my favorite competition. Someday I would like to play there," David said.

Jonathan David is clear that his future should be in Spain, a place where he would like to play and live. More specifically, he would be delighted to wear the Barça jersey, a club he has been following since he was a child. He knows time is running out and wants to make it clear, publicly, to Deco that he would be thrilled to wear the culer jersey.

Jonathan David: A signing in doubt

FC Barcelona is aware of the situation and there have been approaches with the Canadian's entourage in recent months. Although Jonathan David prioritizes Barça, the truth is that  not everything is as simple as it seems.

The total cost of the operation for Jonathan David for FC Barcelona could rise to 80M euros. This figure includes the player's salary for the next four seasons, as well as the signing bonus and commission. He would not arrive to be an undisputed starter, which would mean a high cost for Barça.

Deco likes Jonathan David and he has been closely followed, but there are doubts in the sports management. Meanwhile, some people (few) advocate for his signing, others (the majority) prefer another type of forward. The Canadian is considered a market option for Barça, but  priority is given to a top-level '9' that solves the position for the future.
