Joan Laporta has made it clear in his appearance before the media that he's very calm. He isn't worried about the maneuvers that LaLiga, the Federation, and the rest of the clubs might make. They're not his enemy.
The enemy is at home, Laporta said, noting that the attacks from his opposition have been more significant than the obstacles from LaLiga or the Federation.
Laporta is the Inventor of the Motion of No Confidence at Barça
Laporta, who was the inventor of the motion of no confidence at Barça, hasn't taken well to the opposition uniting against him.
He's been told that his opponents might recall his behavior when he was Núñez's opponent. However, Laporta insisted that the case is different because "I was seeking Barça's good."
Joan Laporta lost two elections facing Núñez. In the second one, where he traveled on Ángel Fernández's boat, he lost by a ratio of 5 to 1. Núñez received 24,025 votes and Laporta's candidacy 5,209.
That happened in August 1997. Six months later, Laporta delegitimized Núñez's democratic victory and filed a motion of no confidence, achieving 35.5% of the votes, compared to the then-president's 61.5%. Núñez: 24,863 votes; Laporta: 14,358.
Despite the electoral setbacks, Laporta continued his undermining work as an opponent, putting obstacles in the way of Núñez's management at Barça.
Now Laporta is very sensitive and doesn't accept that anyone might question his management. He expressed this in today's press conference:
From Elefant Blau to Today's Opposition
- "The opposition? They had a golden opportunity to show they cared about Barça and they didn't. They've sided with those who wanted to harm us."
"They're blinded because we're on the right track, because we've recovered the economy and have a competitive team. Now it seems they're in a hurry and they all come out. They should be patient."
"Does anyone think a Barça president can resign over a decision by LaLiga or the Federation? We fight till the last breath."
"I'm very disappointed because this opposition has come out to side with those who want to see us sunk and have destabilized the team. They've made a huge mistake and now it seems they're backtracking."
"It seemed this opposition wanted us to fail. I'm sorry for Barça if this club ends up in the hands of this opposition."
Laporta affirms that the opposition groups don't care about the club. Exactly the same as President Núñez thought of him and his destructive Elefant Blau.
