'It is What It Is': The Transfers Announced by Barça are Anything but Exciting

Barça's main objective in the winter transfer market doesn't inspire enthusiasm among fans

FC Barcelona's financial situation is what it is. There's no money and no capacity to sign new players.

The club is looking for imaginative solutions to expand its sponsorship pool and has put the first-team shorts on sale.

But that's not enough. The new contract with Nike is not enough to achieve a 1:1 ratio. This means that you can spend one euro for every euro you earn.

Olmo and Pau Victor are Priority

As of today, Barça is financially  KO'd until it can return to Camp Nou. The problem now is getting Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor to be able to play from January 1st,  which isn't guaranteed.

Both have an expiration date: January 1. In order to continue playing, they need other players to leave the squad.

Barça needs to sell and the departure of Frenkie De Jong in the winter market could be providential. The club would save 32 million on his salary in the wage bill and, in addition, he could leave around 30 million.

Should his excellent performance in Mallorca continue, he could encourage the market to end up receiving an offer that interests everyone.

The club will also try to secure other exits, such as Ansu Fati's and Araújo's, but  it won't be easy.

Two Transfers that Don't Spark Excitement

Given this situation, Barça is not in a position to make any transfers. It has no choice but to sell hope with the renewals of Pedri and Gavi, which will be announced in January.

However, for Barcelona fans, these two "transfers" are not enough, because both have been defending the Barça jersey for years. They don't create excitement because they are already there.

As of today, Barça has no other objectives than to sign Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor and close the renewals of Pedri and Gavi.

FC Barcelona continues to work with its technical department, monitoring the market and contacting players who may be of interest. This, however, is expected for the medium or long term. The reality today is that there's neither the money nor the capacity to sign new players.

As Ronald Koeman would say: "It is what it is."
