The new multi-million-dollar contract between Nike and Barça is about to be released. Nike is experiencing the same thing with Lamine Yamal as it did with Leo Messi years ago.
Nike pays millions to Barça so that its players wear clothes with its logo, yet the team's biggest star belongs to Adidas.
Messi's Story with Nike Repeats Itself with Lamine Yamal
The situation can be construed in two ways. On the one hand, Nike pays Barça a lot to be the its brand while saving the costs of its star, who will wear Adidas cleats.
On the other hand, the jersey that will be sold all over the world will belong to Nike, without its having to pay a single euro to the player.
Nike is willing to take advantage of the situation and make the most of Lamine Yamal, even if Adidas pays him.
Within the new contract signed with Barça, team captaincy and number 10 are included.
Nike is thus interested in Lamine Yamal's being the new captain and the new number 10.
The new contract will be valid for 14 years (1.7 billion euros). It also provides for Lamine Yamal to wear the number 10 and become captain of Barça. This will also benefit the commercial interests of the firm.
Number 10 is Destined to be Worn by Lamine Yamal
He won't be captain earlier because logic dictates that the captaincy should be held by a veteran footballer, with representative qualities. Today these virtues are not given to Lamine Yamal.
Nike, however, believes that, in three years, he will be ready to take on team captaincy and number 10. A number that Ansu Fati kept but which, in recent years, hasn't been up to the level of its previous wearer, Leo Messi.
Nike is convinced that the Lamine Lamal's number 10 jersey can be a resounding success. It is expected to reach all five continents and every corner of the planet.
