Confirmed, last-minute change for Mallorca-Barça: 'Flick is preparing a surprise'

Hansi Flick has everything ready for the first league match, where he hopes to make his debut with a victory

FC Barcelona is ready for the start of LaLiga. It will play the first three matchdays away from Spotify Camp Nou, which is still being prepared to host matches. This Saturday, August 16, it's time to head to Mallorca to play the first match of this campaign, in what is always a challenging visit.

The new season will kick off at 7:30 p.m. for a Barça that wants to reclaim the league title. For that, Hansi Flick knows he has to keep all his footballers focused from start to finish. A key factor will be on the bench, where the less regular players will have to be ready when their opportunity comes.

A surprise change for Mallorca-Barça

After having completed a great season, having won all four matches played, Hansi Flick is clear about which eleven to start. It's well known that the German doesn't favor anyone and will line up whoever is in the best form at the right moment.

"El Nacional" has discovered that Hansi Flick is preparing a decision no one saw coming for the debut against Mallorca. What the German is preparing is the surprise of leaving Koundé on the bench, with the idea of betting on Eric García at right back.

Eric García has become a real alternative this season, finally shedding the label of a stopgap. Flick has really liked his performance this preseason, outperforming his competition on the flank. Even though Jules Koundé is untouchable, what the German wants is to give him more rest than last campaign.

Eric García, renewal in progress

According to "Madrid-Barcelona", FC Barcelona is very close to finalizing the renewal of Eric García, whose current contract expires in 2026. The agreement, which is at an advanced stage, would extend his deal until 2030, ensuring the continuity of one of the most versatile players in the squad.

Eric García has established himself as Hansi Flick's favorite utility player. His versatility allows him to play as a center back, right back, and even defensive midfielder, offering tactical solutions in different match contexts. That ability to adapt, combined with his good ball distribution and reading of the game, has made him a footballer fully trusted by the German coach.

Since his return to Barça from Manchester City, Eric has experienced constant growth. He has improved defensively, gained authority, and has shown he can perform in big matches. In addition, his knowledge of the club's playing style, acquired at La Masia, allows him to fit perfectly into Hansi Flick's system.

The club believes that securing a player with these characteristics for the long term is a strategic investment. At 24, he still has room for improvement and can be a key piece in the team's generational transition
