Atlético de Madrid had one of its stands closed due to the brawl between Thibaut Courtois and the fans in the area. Now the club from Madrid expects the same outcome at the Bernabéu.
Raphinha and Lamine Yamal heard the voices of madmen in a corner just a few feet away from them.
"Go sell handkerchiefs at a traffic light, sell handkerchiefs, sell handkerchiefs", "Motherf..., you're a bunch of f... menas" or "you n...". The videos that appeared on social networks are proof of what was experienced at Bernabéu.
The Linesman was Standing Next to Lamine Yamal and Raphinha and Heard Everything
Real Madrid says it will take action against these fans. It'll be very easy as they are perfectly identifiable. However, it's taking a long time to announce their identification and corresponding punishment.
Furthermore, the linesman, López Mir, was standing next to Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. He heard everything, but didn't activate the protocols provided for such cases.
Although the club hopes that Real Madrid will receive the same treatment that Atlético de Madrid received after the Courtois incident, there won't be a partial shutdown of the Bernabéu stands. There won't be even though a minor was insulted, as has been pointed out on social media.
The law, obviously, is not the same for everyone. A lot of delicacy with Vinícius and very little with the others, especially if they are from Barça.
Doesn't It Deserve Punishment?
The first insults came after Lamine Yamal made it 0-3. "Mother..., mother..., you f... mena, you n..., f... n...," the Spanish international heard.
With the score at 0-4, the aggresions against Raphinha and Lamine Yamal intensified as they were about to take a corner kick. Before, after scoring the fourth goal, Raphinha heard: "Son of a b..., you son of a b..., you f... menas, you're all menas" and "f... n...".
LaLiga has also claimed that Ansu Fati was insulted during the warm-up. There were also aggressions en masse towards Barça, with the usual "f... Barça". However, this has already stopped being news at Bernabéu and lacks the importance given to other issues.
Real Madrid's Statement
"Real Madrid strongly condemns any type of behavior involving racism, xenophobia or violence in soccer and sport. We deeply regret the insults uttered by a few fans last night in one of the corners of the stadium.
Real Madrid has opened an investigation to locate and identify the perpetrators of these regrettable and despicable insults, in order to adopt the appropriate disciplinary and legal measures."
Given that the club included a reference to violence in soccer in its statement, it's surprising that the club allowed itself at the time to display a giant banner. This was displayed for months at Bernabéu inciting violence.
"Mou[Mourinho], your finger shows us the way." Signed, Madridist Peña La Clásica.
Did Real Madrid open an investigation into the matter? There's no news on this. And that is despite the fact that the perpetrators were located.
LaLiga Statement
"In light of the events that occurred during the Real Madrid CF – FC Barcelona match, in which intolerable racist behavior was obworked, LALIGA will immediately report the racist insults and gestures received by the FC Barcelona players to the Hate Section of the National Police Research Brigade, informing the Honorable Coordinating Prosecutor of the Hate Crimes and Discrimination Unit of the Attorney General's Office.
LALIGA strongly condemns these events that took place at Santiago Bernabéu and remains firm in its commitment to eradicate any type of racist behavior and hatred inside and outside the stadiums. There's no place for this scourge in sport."
CSD statement
"The Supreme Sports Council (CSD, Consejo Superior de Deportes) strongly condemns the racist incidents that occurred last Saturday at Santiago Bernabéu stadium, during the match between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
"El Clásico is one of the greatest shows in the world, a true expression of the importance that soccer has in our country. In it, as in any other sporting event, there can never be any room for expressions of violence, racism, xenophobia, hatred or intolerance.
"The CSD considers these behaviors to be unacceptable, as they are far removed from the values of coexistence and respect inherent to sport, and the eradication of which requires the work of everyone. In particular, the collaboration of the clubs.
As has happened on previous occasions with other incidents, the events that occurred during the course of this match will be analyzed by the State Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance in Sport.
This collegiate body is responsible for formulating and implementing active policies against violence and intolerance and preventing racist, xenophobic and LGBTIphobic practices in sport.
The Standing Committee, which will meet on Monday, is made up of representatives from the CSD, the Ministry of the Domestic Affairs, the National Police, the Civil Guard, the Royal Spanish soccer Federation, LaLiga and other professional leagues and the Attorney General's Office.
Very good intentions from everyone. However, nobody dares to apply to Real Madrid the same law that Valencia and Atlético suffered for the same reasons.
They set the bar very high at Mestalla and the Metropolitano. Now the competent authorities are lowering it again. They should know why.
