Unexpected! Jesús Vallejo Finds a Team in Germany: ‘I’m Going to Sign for…’

An unexpected turn in Jesús Vallejo's career points to new opportunities outside Spain

June 30 is approaching quickly, and for many footballers, it's the end of an era. Jesús Vallejo, a 28-year-old center-back, is one of them. After years at Real Madrid, the club announced his departure at the end of May.

Vallejo wasn't drafted for Madrid's trip to the U.S., a clear sign that his time at the club has ended. The player said goodbye with a message full of gratitude on social media: He thanked everyone at Madrid for the experiences he had, both good and bad.

"I'm leaving with good feelings and valuable lessons, both on and off the field," he said. His time at Madrid was marked by constant work and strong commitment, although he wasn't always an undisputed starter.

New destination in Germany

Although in Spain it was taken for granted that Vallejo would stay in LaLiga or look for something similar, the surprise comes from Germany. St. Pauli, a Hamburg-based team that finished 14th in the Bundesliga last season, has shown interest in the Zaragoza-born center-back.

This club, with a very unique history and fanbase, is looking to strengthen its defense for the next campaign and sees Vallejo as the ideal piece. Vallejo isn't new to German soil; in the 16/17 season, he already excelled at Eintracht Frankfurt, showing a level that was highly appreciated. Now, it seems he's returning to a league he knows and where he left a good impression.

A career full of loans and lessons

Since he arrived at Real Madrid in 2016, Jesús Vallejo played 35 official matches with the club. But his time at Madrid was marked by several loans: Wolves, twice at Granada, and an earlier one in Germany.

In England, he didn't have much luck, playing only seven matches with Wolves. However, at Granada, he managed to establish himself, especially in the 20/21 season, when he played 37 matches across LaLiga, Copa, and Europa League. It was a period of growth, with highlights such as reaching the European quarterfinals.

The last spell at Granada wasn't as fortunate. Injuries limited his appearances, and he played only three matches in the 23/24 season. This halted his continuity, but not his determination to keep fighting for a place.

Rayo Vallecano also wants Vallejo

Not everything is settled in Germany. Rayo Vallecano, which will compete in Europe again (Conference League qualifying round), also has Vallejo on its radar. The Madrid-based club is looking to strengthen its defense to face this new adventure and sees the center-back as an interesting option.

What awaits Jesús Vallejo?

Jesús Vallejo is at a crucial moment in his career, about to sign for St. Pauli, opening a new chapter far from Spain. Germany offers him the opportunity to relaunch his career in a demanding and competitive league.

Eager to show his worth and experience, Vallejo is ready for the next challenge. His story is that of a footballer who never stopped fighting, despite difficulties and injuries. This unexpected signing could be just what he needs to shine again.
