This is how Diogo Jota asked his friend not to sign for Real Madrid: he didn't pay any attention to him

Diego Jota tried to stop a transfer in a very curious way, but his close friend eventually signed for Real Madrid

The world of soccer remains shocked by the tragic death of Diogo Jota, forward for Liverpool and the Portugal National Team. At just 28 years old, the Portuguese footballer lost his life in a traffic accident while enjoying a well-deserved vacation in Spain. He was traveling with his brother AndrƩ through the province of Zamora when their vehicle suffered a fatal crash.

The news has hit both the Premier League and his teammates and fans hard. Diogo Jota was much more than a talented player. He was a very beloved person in Liverpool's locker room, where he left a deep mark since his arrival in 2020.

Among the many stories that have been remembered after his unexpected loss, an anecdote has come to light that shows the most human and playful side of the Portuguese footballer. Diogo Jota kept a close friendship with Trent Alexander-Arnold, one of the club's great icons at Anfield. For more than five seasons, they shared a locker room and formed a special connection on Liverpool's right wing.

Their complicity on and off the field was evident. Perhaps that's why Diogo Jota tried to convince his friend not to leave for Real Madrid, although he ultimately didn't succeed.

Diogo Jota's anecdote, Real Madrid and Trent Alexander-Arnold

The story goes back to December 2024, when Diogo Jota took part in a Christmas feature for Sky Sports. In the activity, Liverpool's players had to choose the perfect gift for each teammate.

When it was Jota's turn, and he was asked about a gift for Trent Alexander-Arnold, he didn't hesitate for a second. His answer was clear and full of intention: "A piece of paper and a pen so he can sign his contract with Liverpool and renew."

Despite the playful tone, the underlying message was real. Diogo Jota wanted Trent Alexander-Arnold to stay at Anfield. He considered him a key piece of the team and, above all, a great friend.

However, Trent didn't listen to his request. A few months later, he decided to accept Real Madrid's offer and start a new chapter at Santiago BernabƩu. There, he has already played his first matches and has been enthusiastically welcomed by the white fans.

Now, with Diogo Jota sadly gone, this gesture takes on a much deeper meaning. It's yet another example of the closeness and affection he inspired among those around him. His legacy will also remain through stories like this, where friendship and love for his club excelled through without filters or masks.
