Raúl González decided to leave Real Madrid just a few weeks ago after years without being given the chance to manage the first team. He arrived at La Fábrica in 2018 and ended up leaving in 2025, after doing a great job at the helm of Castilla and turning down strong offers in recent years. What seemed like a departure with a clear destination is now turning into a real ordeal for the Spanish coach.
New rejection for Raúl González
There has been much talk about Raúl's next team. At times, it seemed clear that he had a deal with Schalke, an option that ultimately fell through. After that, many reliable sources pointed to RB Leipzig as his next destination, but this possibility has now been completely ruled out.

In recent weeks, an approach from RB Leipzig to Raúl González had been discovered. It seemed like an ideal opportunity, but it won't be possible. In the last few hours, reports from Germany have announced that Leipzig is about to finalize its next coach: Ole Werner, who will arrive from Werder Bremen.
The terms of Werner's transfer have already been agreed, with the deal set at around €3 million (about $3.3 million), including bonuses. He has been chosen over Raúl González, who now seems to have a very difficult time finding a team to coach next season.
Raúl González: Future in doubt
At this time, it is still unknown where Raúl González will coach next season. The two options he had in Germany have disappeared, while in Spain it would be increasingly difficult for him.
At times, there had been rumors about his signing by Getafe, but always dependent on Bordalás leaving. This is becoming more and more complicated, so it now seems impossible. Sevilla, another option, has already hired its new coach. Meanwhile, the possibility of Leganés, recently relegated to Segunda, is still on the table.
Raúl González seeks success on the sidelines
Raúl González began his career in 2018, taking charge of Cadete B of Real Madrid. That same year, he was promoted to Juvenil B after the dismissal of Álvaro Benito. In the 2019-2020 season, he was named coach of Real Madrid Castilla, a position he held for six seasons. During his tenure, he managed 209 matches, with a record of 82 wins, 70 draws, and 57 losses. Under his leadership, Castilla reached the promotion play-offs to Segunda División twice, coming close to achieving the goal in 2021 and 2023.
In August 2020, Raúl also managed Juvenil A, with which he won the Youth League, the only title in this category in the club's history.
Despite his commitment and achievements in the youth academy, Raúl was not given the chance to manage the first team of Real Madrid. This situation, similar to those in previous years, influenced his decision to seek new professional challenges outside the club.
In May 2025, Raúl announced his departure from Castilla, expressing his desire to return someday to the club he considers his home.
