Real Madrid has already played its three group stage matches in the Club World Cup. Xabi Alonso has drawn his first very clear conclusions. There are players who aren't at the level the badge demands, and several of them have been heavily singled out.
Four key names top the list of disappointments that the Basque coach has conveyed to the board: Rodrygo, Raúl Asencio, Dani Ceballos, and David Alaba.
The demands at Real Madrid are at their highest, and Xabi Alonso isn't willing to make concessions. The Club World Cup was an opportunity for the less regular players to step up.
What happened was the complete opposite. The coach expected commitment, intensity, and leadership... and he found a performance well below what is acceptable.
The three players failed by Xabi Alonso
Rodrygo has been the biggest disappointment. The Brazilian still hasn't broken out as was desired after Benzema's departure and continues to raise doubts every time he starts. In the international tournament, he looked lackluster, without imbalance, and with very little determination.
His lack of goals is concerning. Although he's still young, the coaching staff are already considering his possible sale if a good offer arrives this summer.

Raúl Asencio is another one who has been singled out. Xabi Alonso values his strengths, which are many, such as his speed, tactical positioning, and forcefulness. He's still inexperienced in strategic matters, and the penalty he conceded and his sending off are proof of that.
Dani Ceballos, who recently renewed his contract, has also dropped off significantly and hasn't started in any of the three matches. His performance has been flat, lacking rhythm and the ability to control the midfield.
The coach expected him to take on more responsibility, but he has shown himself incapable of competing at the level the team needs. In his case, a loan for next season or even a permanent sale isn't ruled out if a convincing offer comes in.
David Alaba raises many doubts
There's also the case of David Alaba. The Austrian has been injured again, and Xabi doubts he can count on him regularly. Xabi Alonso, tired of his physical fragility, has already suggested that he consider leaving the club.

However, Alaba has no intention of moving: he has a contract until 2026 and earns €22 million gross per season. For now, he doesn't want to give up that salary.
Xabi Alonso has been clear: he wants a committed, healthy, and competitive locker room. Patience has run out with some players, and although Madrid inspire hope in the World Cup, tough decisions are on the way.
A clear-out is coming this summer.
