Surprise, Failed Swap between Real Madrid and AC Milan: Ferland Mendy, Saved

Madrid reevaluates its options to strengthen the left-back position in search of a long-term solution

Real Madrid is doing everything possible to plan next summer in the best way possible. With the arrival of signings and renewals on the horizon, the operation to strengthen certain positions hasn't gone unnoticed.

However, one of the surprises has been the attempted swap with AC Milan that ultimately didn't materialize. What has happened with Ferland Mendy's future and how does all this affect the club's plans?

Future Plans at Real Madrid

The last few weeks have been full of speculation about Real Madrid's signings. In addition to the expected renewals of key players like Luka Modric and Lucas Vázquez, possible additions of players like Alexander Arnold have been mentioned. However, there is another topic that has gained relevance: the future of the left-back position.

With Alphonso Davies's renewal with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid was left without its main target for that position. The search for a new left-back has turned toward Theo Hernández from AC Milan. The problem is that his price could be a significant obstacle.

The Attempted Swap with Ferland Mendy

To try to lower the cost of signing Theo Hernández, Real Madrid considered the possibility of including Ferland Mendy in the swap. The idea was for the French full-back to be part of the operation so that Hernández's price would be more accessible. However, this move didn't entirely convince coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Ancelotti has always preferred Mendy, considering him one of the best defensive full-backs when he's in top form. In fact, on more than one occasion, Ancelotti has praised his ability to perform in crucial matches. This has made Real Madrid reluctant to part with him so easily.

Ancelotti's Confidence in Mendy

Despite the rumors about the swap, Ancelotti was reluctant to lose Mendy. For the coach, it doesn't seem to be the best decision to let go of a player who has proven his worth in the most important moments. With Fran García in the squad, Real Madrid doesn't see an urgent need to reinforce the left-back position.

Instead of making an immediate investment in the left-back position, Real Madrid is looking more toward the future. While it's true that the position needs reinforcement in the long term, the plans for the summer don't include a major operation for this position.

Miguel Gutiérrez, currently at Girona, is an affordable option who could return to Real Madrid for about 8 million euros. A price that seems interesting for a young player with great potential.
