Real Madrid has been working on signing a central defender for some time now. However, the scenario might have changed. David Alaba's recovery could happen imminently and all possible transfers have come to a halt. This even includes one that seemed more advanced than the rest: Aymeric Laporte.
So far, despite all that's been said, there has been no contact between Real Madrid and Aymeric Laporte. This was revealed by journalist José Félix Díaz, who indicated that the club didn't call the international center-back for Spain at any time. Right now, all options remain open and there have been no advances.
Florentino Pérez knows what he would have to do if he decides to finally sign Laporte. Al-Nassr would be willing to let him go for a figure close to 10-12 million euros, a figure that fits within Madrid's parameters. In any case, although the Spaniard is appealing, he doesn't fit the young and promising profile that's currently being given priority.
David Alaba's Imminent Return: Negotiations at a Standstill at Real Madrid
David Alaba's recovery is progressing well and Real Madrid is already seeing him as the "January transfer". If the Austrian were to become fully fit soon, the possibility of going to the winter market would be completely ruled out. Despite Militão's injury, it is considered that, with the veteran defender back in the game, the position is well covered.
Having David Alaba and the youth system, it would be unnecessary to invest in Aymeric Laporte or any other center-back in January.
However, Florentino Pérez is planning to make a transfer for next summer. In this scenario, German Jonathan Tah appears to be the main candidate. His contract with Bayer Leverkusen ends on June 30 and he is presented as an unbeatable transfer at zero cost, especially given the possible arrival of Xabi Alonso.
In this sense, everything will depend on how David Alaba progresses from his injury and how well he recovers. If he is soon fully fit, Madrid will definitely cancel any transfers in January for the backline. This includes Aymeric Laporte, a Spanish international.
