The president of the Technical Committee of Referees has replied to Florentino Pérez's letter in which he accused the referees of adulterating LaLiga.
Medina Cantalejo did so through an interview given to Josep Pedrerol in his section El Cafelito.
"We can be clumsy and very bad, but not corrupt"
Medina Cantalejo defended himself against the four-page letter released by Real Madrid. He admits refereeing errors but attributes them to clumsiness, in no case to the possibility of corruption in his organization.
Medina Cantalejo said: "I haven'thing to be ashamed of. Neither my colleagues nor I are corrupt at all. We can be very clumsy, we will be very bad, but I guarantee you we are not corrupt".
He also wanted to clarify that "the referees are not going to harm anyone. Despite what statements, letters, or televisions say, we are honest. None of us go to the field with the idea of harming someone".
"I am very clear about what has happened, but I can't give an explanation"
Asked about the level of referees who misapply the rules, he added: "What everyone sees, a referee and two from VAR can't fail to see. I am very clear about what has happened, everyone has seen it, although I am not only referring to Mbappé's action... When it is black and white and the white is obvious and the referee opts for the black, I can't give you an explanation..."
Regarding the fridge as punishment, he confessed: "This week it won't be one, it will be eight". He insisted on denying Real Madrid's claim that the "refereeing structure is corrupted".
Medina Cantalejo used the same channel as Rafael Louzán, president of the Federation, to give explanations to Spain: El Chiringuito.
The president of the referees knows that the media directed by Josep Pedrerol is aligned with Florentino Pérez. Probably for this reason, he chose it to give his explanations.
The Federation accepts punishment for its referees, while they rebel and consider a strike to stop the competition.Florentino Pérez has directly pointed to a series of referees and the conflict doesn't seem to be solved with good words.
