Soccer player wearing a Liverpool jersey smiles in front of the Liverpool and Real Madrid crests on a yellow background

Official, Ibrahima Konaté already has a team for 25/26: 'I'm going to play for...'

Konaté has made the final decision about his future, choosing where he will play next season

For some time now, Real Madrid has identified Ibrahima Konaté as its priority to strengthen the center of the defense as soon as possible. He is a center-back very much to Xabi Alonso's liking, who values his physical presence, aerial power, and ball distribution. In Valdebebas, they believe that Konaté, whose contract with Liverpool ends in 2026, is the perfect complement for the very young Dean Huijsen.

Rumors have been clear, indicating that Konaté was desperate to play for Real Madrid. However, until now, the France international hadn't spoken out so strongly. He hasn't done so directly, but has used a journalist friend to make it public.

Decision made

Abdellah Boulma, a journalist close to Ibrahima Konaté, has revealed that the center-back is clear about where he will play next season: Liverpool. "I'm going to stay, I'm happy here," were the words the Frenchman used about Anfield.

He hasn't stopped there, as Boulma added: "Ibrahima Konaté wants to stay at Liverpool, he's happy at the club." Thus, the idea the defender has conveyed is to renew his contract with the English side, aiming to continue beyond June 30, 2026, when it currently expires.

Renewal underway

In this regard, Ibrahima Konaté is clear that his future only lies with Liverpool. He wouldn't have any intention of forcing his departure, even though he was open to playing for Real Madrid.

At 26, what Konaté is seeking is a long-term renewal to spend the rest of his career at Anfield. The idea is for him to continue, at least, until 2029 or 2030, a duration that is well regarded by all parties involved.

New target at Real Madrid?

Given the current situation, it seems practically impossible for the center-back to end up wearing Real Madrid's jersey. This won't come as a surprise to the Whites, since 'Madrid-Barcelona' has learned that there are several targets on Xabi Alonso's list.

The plan is to completely rebuild the center of the defense, which for various reasons has been declining in recent times. Huijsen is untouchable and a starter, and from there, the best option will be sought to accompany him, whether it's Ibrahima Konaté or someone else. Updates are expected soon.
