Official: Florentino Pérez Calls Joan Laporta to Sign a Top Barça Player

Real Madrid's president wants to sign a star from FC Barcelona and Joan Laporta might consider the offer

The transfer market could experience an unexpected twist if a deal between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona is confirmed. Florentino Pérez might have contacted Joan Laporta to explore the transfer of Frenkie de Jong, Barcelona's star.

Frenkie De Jong's Situation at Barça

Frenkie de Jong arrived at Barcelona in 2019 with great expectations, but recently his prominence has been decreasing. Although he remains a valuable player, his contractual situation has raised doubts. His contract with Barcelona ends in 2026 but there have been no advances regarding its renewal.

This has put the blaugrana club in an uncomfortable position. If the renewal isn't finalized, they could lose De Jong without obtaining significant financial compensation. In this scenario, Barça might consider selling the player before his value depreciates further.

Real Madrid Stays Alert to the Situation

Despite not being a priority for Real Madrid, Frenkie de Jong could be an interesting opportunity. The white club isn't urgently looking to improve its midfield, as it has one of the most competitive teams in Europe, with names like Bellingham, Valverde, Tchouaméni, Camavinga, and Ceballos.

However, Florentino Pérez would be willing to seize a market opportunity if Barcelona decides to sell the player. Unlike other clubs that might enter bidding wars, Real Madrid isn't willing to pay exorbitant amounts.

A Transfer with Historical Overtones

The potential transfer of De Jong by Real Madrid would evoke the famous transfer of Luis Figo in 2000. On that occasion, the Portuguese left Barcelona to join Madrid, causing an earthquake in Spanish soccer. While De Jong's case wouldn't be identical, his transfer by the eternal rival could become a similar media sensation.

This type of operation, which transcends sports, always causes significant repercussions. If De Jong arrives at Bernabéu, rivalries would be reignited, and Figo's transfer, which marked soccer history, would be evoked.

A Complex but Not Impossible Operation

Although a transfer of this caliber between Spain's two giants seems complicated, it's not entirely dismissive. Barça might need the resources that De Jong's sale would provide to balance its accounts. In this case, Real Madrid could step in, but always under its philosophy of not spending excessively.

The transfer of Frenkie de Jong would represent a surprise and a symbolic blow for Barça. For now, everything is speculation as the soccer world remains expectant at the possibility of a "Figo 2.0."
