Benfica’s Unexpected Attitude Regarding Carreras: ‘Florentino is Angry’

It is not at all clear where Álvaro Carreras will play next season: his future is more hanging in the air than ever

Real Madrid has tried at all times to unblock the signing of Álvaro Carreras. The Spaniard from Benfica is the chosen one to strengthen the left back, but so far his transfer hasn't been possible. Florentino still doesn't understand why he's not already wearing the Madrid jersey, even after reaching "an agreement" to pay his release clause in installments.

Carlos Carpio, deputy director of Marca, has discovered it and stated: "Real Madrid reached an agreement with Benfica to pay Álvaro Carreras's release clause in two installments. Benfica accepted, but delayed and ended up registering him for the Club World Cup".

In this regard, Carpio hasn't held back, assuring that "Real Madrid is very angry."

Florentino's anger

Benfica's stance, kept through its president Rui Costa, hasn't been well received at Real Madrid. Florentino Pérez is very angry, but he still intends to secure the signing of Álvaro Carreras when the Club World Cup ends.

Personally, nothing has changed with Carreras: He wants to play for Madrid, the white team wants him, and his arrival will happen. The Spaniard has done everything on his part to make the agreement work, but it was Benfica that decided to break everything off when it was already completely closed.

Clear message to Benfica

Although they wanted to take the positive route, trying to reach an agreement, Florentino already knows it won't be possible. What he'll do when the Club World Cup ends is pay Carreras's clause directly, set at 50 million euros. Even though he was interested in splitting the payments, he knows it won't be possible and he'll pay everything in full.

Real Madrid doesn't want to lose a left back of Álvaro Carreras's caliber, as he's been the priority at all times for the left side of Bernabéu. For the remainder of the summer, His clause will be paid and a departure in the defensive area will be activated, with either Mendy or Fran García having to leave.

In any case, Florentino is clear about one thing: when Benfica goes after players from Real Madrid, he won't make things easy at all. Relations have been seriously damaged after what happened with Carreras and, unless things change, it's unlikely they'll ever be the same again.
