Ninth trophyless season for Florentino: history repeats with Mbappé like with David Beckham

25 years later, he makes a mistake like with the Galácticos: He has sought excellence with Mbappé and ends up with nothing

Real Madrid will conclude the 2024-25 season without any titles. No League, no Cup, and no Champions, the three most important titles contested in Spain.

Florentino accumulates 9 titleless seasons

It is the ninth titleless season for Florentino Pérez in his two tenures at the helm of Real Madrid: 2000-2006 and 2009-2025. It shows that just as the white president knows how to win a lot, he also knows how to lose a lot.

2001-2002, 2003-04, 2004-05, 2005-06, 2009-10, 2012-13, 2018-19, 2020-21, 2024-25. These are the nine seasons in which Florentino Pérez's Real Madrid has ended without titles.

It seemed that with the Champions League binge, 6 in the last 10 years, Florentino Pérez had learned to govern Real Madrid. But 25 years later, he still has to hear calls for resignation in Valdebebas.

Money in the bank, but not on the field

Florentino Pérez's management this season has been surprising. He boasts of money in the bank, but hasn't wanted to put it on the field when injuries have depleted Ancelotti's squad. The final titleless season can't be a surprise to anyone, it was foreseeable.

Obsessed with the Bernabéu renovations, the Super League, and the signing of Mbappé, Florentino Pérez, who has always boasted of economic muscle, has forgotten to invest in his squad.

Ancelotti has paid the price. The defense that Real Madrid presented in Montjuïc while playing for LaLiga is unacceptable.

On the other hand, he seems to have committed the same sin that forced him to leave the club in 2006. He has relied on his new superstars, as happened then, and has taken the hit. They have grown tired of winning.

He didn't foresee the importance of Kroos's replacement

Toni Kroos left, a key man on and off the field, and he hasn't replaced him with anyone significant. Mbappé's entry into the team has been traumatic.

It is evident that the Frenchman doesn't get along with Vinícius and that together they don't fit in the same team. Without Mbappé, Real Madrid won LaLiga and the Champions last year. With Mbappé, they haven't won League, Cup, or Champions.

To all this, we must add the painful results against Barcelona, "the team of the kids" and "the levers": 0-4, 2-5, 2-3, and 3-4.

Mbappé, like David Beckham

There are already those in the white environment who think that Kylian Mbappé, being an extraordinary player, may give the same performance that Beckham offered. The Englishman was supposed to be the icing on the cake, and his arrival only served to stir up the henhouse.

Mbappé doesn't play alone. He needs the team. If the team doesn't respond, it's useless to have the supposed best player in the world, as seen in Montjuïc.

25 years later, Florentino Pérez has repeated his past mistakes. He has sought excellence with Mbappé and has found himself with a titleless season that now forces him to dig into his pockets.
