Luka Modric is spending his final days as a Madridist, but he already has his bags packed. After more than a decade of glory at Real Madrid, the Croatian will close his chapter as a white legend after the Club World Cup.
His destination will be AC Milan, where he will sign a two-season contract. However, Modric doesn't want to arrive at San Siro alone. He has put a name on the table that is gaining more and more traction in the offices of the Italian club.
Ceballos, the one chosen by Modric to strengthen Milan
The veteran Croatian midfielder has recommended that Milan's board sign Dani Ceballos, his teammate at Real Madrid and a player he deeply respects. Modric considers him a world-class footballer who simply hasn't had the opportunities he deserves at the white club.
At Real Madrid, competition in midfield is fierce. Tchouaméni, Camavinga, Valverde, Bellingham, and Arda Güler block any real chance for Ceballos to shine, as he has spent more time on the bench or recovering from injuries than on the field.
In addition, Mastantuono's signing is already confirmed and makes his chances of playing at Real Madrid even slimmer.
At 27 years old, the Andalusian needs a change of scenery, and Modric believes Milan would be the ideal destination.
Milan listens to its new leader
Luka Modric's signing by AC Milan has been very well received in Italy. Not only because of his career, but also for the experience and leadership he can bring to a young locker room.
Now, with his arrival already agreed, the club is open to fulfilling some of his requests. The first has been clear: "Bring Dani Ceballos. He's very good, he'll succeed in Italy."
Modric knows that Milan's play style fits Ceballos's characteristics perfectly. A midfielder with technique, vision, close control, and a competitive character. In Serie A, he can shine like never before, with more freedom and minutes to show his true potential.
Madrid don't count on Ceballos
For months, Dani Ceballos's future at Real Madrid has been hanging in the air. Although he renewed his contract until 2027, he did so trusting he would have more playing time. However, the reality has been different: he has barely been considered by Ancelotti, and everything suggests Xabi Alonso won't change that trend either.
The club won't put obstacles in his way if a convincing offer arrives. Meanwhile, Modric's arrival at Milan could be the push Ceballos needed to leave. The Italian side view the transfer favorably if the price is reasonable and, in addition, it has the endorsement of its new star signing.
A move that could relaunch his career
Ceballos has offers from other teams in Spain, but the possibility of playing at Milan and sharing a locker room with Modric is especially appealing to him. It wouldn't be his first experience outside LaLiga, since he played on loan at Arsenal. However, it could be key to relaunching his career at the international level.
Modric has already let him know he wants him by his side. Now it's up to Ceballos to decide.
