Lucas Vázquez Down and Out: Edu Aguirre Suprpises and Ancelotti Thinks about it

Carlo Ancelotti is preparing a surprise for the game between Real Madrid and Barça.

Lucas Vázquez will not start in El Clásico against Barça. Journalist Edu Aguirre announced this in El Chiringuito. He's pointed out that the Galician full-back will start the match from the bench, despite his recent good performance. Ancelotti is looking for a shock effect and wants to surprise with this decision, which, until now, nobody expected.

"Madrid is considering bringing Militão in as a right-back. We could see Modric, Valverde, Camavinga and Bellingham in midfield and Vinícius and Mbappé in attack," said Edu Aguirre.

The right-back position wouldn't be a new one for Militão. He's played there in Brazil and has already played there during his time with Porto. Now, Ancelotti would like to strengthen the defense by putting a more defensive-minded full-back in the place of Lucas Vázquez. The thing is Vázquez tends to play more towards the front of the Real Madrid offense.

What Ancelotti wants with this decision is to try to guard Raphinha more, being Barcelona's great asset for the next Clásico. Lucas Vázquez, being less defensive, would give him more opportunities to attack, being now in a brutal state of grace.

Ancelotti Doesn't Trust Lucas Vázquez

He tried Lucas Vázquez, a veteran with experience in the position, on the wing. But he hasn't convinced him. Against Borussia Dortmund, he scored a great goal reminiscent of his days as a winger. Defensively, though he has many shortcomings, and Ancelotti already has plenty of good forwards.

What he asks of his defenders is that they must defend well. Against Borussia Dortmund, Lucas Vázquez was directly responsible for the Germans' two goals in the first half.

In the first one, his mistake in passing the ball on the edge of the area led to the goal. In the second one, he got past his opponent and arrived in his position with his last breath despite the fact that the goal was inevitable.

Ancelotti values Lucas Vázquez's attacking contribution as a full-back, which is excellent. But he would prefer him to be unbeatable at the back and less gifted in attacking plays. The conclusion is that Lucas Vázquez can be useful to Ancelotti for specific match. Not to hold down the right-back position for the entire season, however.

The coach has asked for a full-back for the next winter transfer window, even though he says otherwise in public. Edu Aguirre's information is clear: he will be a substitute in important matches. Ancelotti needs someone immediately.
