Josep Pedrerol makes it official, deal broken: 'Álvaro Carreras will play with...'

The operation for the Spanish full-back takes a radical turn and completely changes the plans at Real Madrid

Madrid had made the decision to include Álvaro Carreras to strengthen the defensive line for the Club World Cup, but it won't be possible. Josep Pedrerol, host of "El Chiringuito," has delivered the surprise: when everything seemed close, the operation has completely changed. It's all because of Benfica, which has decided to register him for this tournament, making his addition to the Merengue squad impossible.

Josep Pedrerol makes it official: Álvaro Carreras "stays" at Benfica

Pedrerol began his explanation by saying: "The reality is no, Álvaro Carreras is registered by Benfica and he can't be registered twice. Benfica has said: "If you want to pay the release clause, pay it, but he'll play the World Cup with me." Carreras is going to play the Club World Cup with Benfica."

In this regard, the Catalan journalist continued: "The question is: 'What will Real Madrid do, will they pay the €50 million clause or not?'. The plan is to pay it, but not before the end of the World Cup. That's what's expected. Everything is agreed with Carreras, the negotiation with Benfica hasn't been possible and they've registered him, Madrid can't do anything there. He'll travel to the World Cup and then he'll sign for Real Madrid, paying the clause when the Club World Cup ends."

Álvaro Carreras will play for Real Madrid

Despite the unilateral decision made by the Portuguese team, the reality is that everyone at Real Madrid counts on Carreras for next season. The Spaniard is the chosen one to strengthen the left back, but his presence for the Club World Cup has been completely ruled out.

After a period in which negotiations haven't advanced, Benfica has decided to take him to the United States. Faced with that, Florentino Pérez can't do anything. When the Club World Cup ends, his €50 million ($54.7 million) clause will be paid and, therefore, he'll become a new player for Real Madrid.

Although he can't play in the World Cup, his presence for next season isn't in danger. Negotiations with Benfica have broken down and they've chosen to pay his clause in full. Real Madrid doesn't want to be left without a left back of Álvaro Carreras's caliber and they'll have to dig deep into their pockets. It's a direct request from Xabi Alonso and Florentino is going to fulfill it.
