Goodbye to Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez confirms to Xabi Alonso: 'He's leaving...'

Xabi Alonso's main request to strengthen Real Madrid's squad has definitively fallen through.

Florentino Pérez is planning the squad for next season with Xabi Alonso on the bench. Although nothing is confirmed, the president of Real Madrid likes to know the opinion of the Basque coach regarding potential signings he might make. On the table, the coach had put the name of a pivot he likes a lot and would fit at Bernabéu: Martín Zubimendi.

However, so far Real Madrid hasn't lifted a finger for Martín Zubimendi, and his arrival is now practically impossible. The journalist from The Athletic, Mario Cortegana, has spoken about this: "I've been told that he's liked at Valdebebas, but he has it very advanced with Arsenal. His signing isn't closed, but it is very close to being done."

Despite having previously rejected his move to England, Zubimendi now would have said "yes, I do" to leave Real Sociedad. But he would have done so with one condition: that they wait until the season ends. He likes the option of Arsenal and believes that the summer of 2025 is the ideal time to leave, with negotiations very advanced with the gunner club.

Martín Zubimendi, Xabi Alonso's big request to Real Madrid

This confirmation of his departure to Arsenal hasn't pleased Xabi Alonso at all, who holds Zubimendi in high regard. He is clear that, in the case of arriving at Real Madrid, changes are needed and he has pointed out one position: that of central midfielder. Tchouaméni doesn't fit at all in his scheme, and he considers the Spaniard to be the ideal pivot for his play style.

However, for Florentino Pérez, it hasn't been a priority at any time, causing everything to cool down. Martín Zubimendi's next destination will be in England, more specifically at Arsenal, which hopes to soon finalize his definitive incorporation for the next season.

What Xabi Alonso is clear about is that, if he arrives at Real Madrid, the main casualty will be Tchouaméni. He has no intention of counting on him and will request a high-level reinforcement in the position; not just anyone will do. With the option of Martín Zubimendi practically ruled out, Florentino Pérez will have to look for a high-level alternative if he wants to please the Basque.

There is time ahead, and at Real Madrid, they are taking this case very calmly, with the priority being to strengthen the weakened defensive line.
