Goodbye Enzo Fernández, Xabi Alonso already says goodbye: his new target is much better

Chelsea has priced the Argentine midfielder too high, and Xabi Alonso has decided to move on

Real Madrid hasn't stopped moving for several days. Since the signing of Xabi Alonso was completed, the man from Tolosa is fully involved in the sports planning for the next season. So far, there are two confirmed signings: Huijsen and Arnold, while Carreras is close. All three will be available for the World Cup, and, as if that weren't enough, the new coach has requested a fourth signing: a top-level midfielder, with Enzo Fernández being his favorite.

Enzo Fernández, problems at Real Madrid

The main obstacle in the potential signing of the Argentine is his current team, Chelsea.  In 2023, they paid 121 million euros to sign him from Benfica. Now, only two years later, they demand, at a minimum, to recover the investment they made. This is the information from AS, which has indicated that,  even by paying that amount, it seems unlikely that Enzo Fernández could leave Stamford Bridge.

It's not an easy signing, and they don't want to waste more time. That's why, according to Madrid-Barcelona, despite what is being said, Real Madrid has decided to move on. In recent conversations between Florentino and Xabi Alonso, the  decision has been made not to continue in the race for Enzo Fernández, opting for other priorities to strengthen the midfield.

Xabi Alonso moves on: there's a new target

Considering that the decision has been made to move on from Enzo Fernández,  Xabi Alonso has made his priority clear: Florian Wirtz. He would leave for a price similar to the Argentine, but it's a signing that convinces the Real Madrid offices more. He is highly liked, has been followed for a long time, and would arrive accompanied by his main supporter at Leverkusen, with the Basque being the person who has made him excel.

Despite this, Wirtz's move is not easy for Real Madrid. Multiple teams want him, and Liverpool seems to have taken the lead at the moment. Leverkusen demands more than 120 million euros for his sale, with the white team interested in negotiating the transfer conditions.

It's not an easy move, but the reality is this:  Florian Wirtz has outexcelled Enzo Fernández. He is the new target for Real Madrid and has Xabi Alonso as his main supporter.
