Florentino Pérez is preparing to face his last electoral campaign to be re-elected as president of Real Madrid.
Florentino Has an Expiration Date
In fact, the Real Madrid election process begins today, January 7. A club statement recently announced:
"The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, calls the Board of Directors of the club on January 7, 2025, at 5:30 PM. The objective is to initiate the election process for president and Board of Directors for the next four years."
Obviously, Florentino Pérez will run to conclude his work with his last term. In 2029, he'll put an end to his long and glorious period of leadership at the white club.
No one is expected to run against the president. Florentino has managed to garner absolute unanimity among Madrid fans around his persona. The path to 2029 will be clear for him.
In any case, these are democratic elections, and anyone can run to challenge Florentino Pérez.
The Requirements to be President of Real Madrid
The requirements are clear: "Being Spanish, of legal age and legal capacity to act. Being up to date with membership fees. Being a Real Madrid member for at least 20 uninterrupted years.
Not beinb subject to any sanction that bans from holding managerial positions. Not holding any other position in soccer. Providing a bank guarantee of 15% of the club budget backed by personal assets."
This last point is the most complicated one because the guarantee must be made for an approximate amount of 150 million euros.
Florentino's Successor is Already Agreed upon
The electoral process that begins today will end in three weeks. In his last term, Florentino plans to change the structure of the club. He aims to turn it into a commercial company that will control 49% of the club.
Florentino won the elections of 2009, 2013, 2017, and 2021 without alternative candidates competing with him in the electoral campaign. There's no knowledge of anyone considering running in 2025.
Therefore, calm elections without debate are expected. By 2029, everything is prepared, with Florentino's own approval, for Madrid fans to rally around Rafa Nadal as the new president. Even that will be done well by Florentino.
