Fabrizio Romano puts an end to the rumors, it's now official: 'Gonzalo García will play for the...'

The popular Italian journalist has released where the Real Madrid youth academy graduate will play in the 2025-26 season

There has been a lot of speculation regarding the future of Gonzalo García at Real Madrid. A few weeks ago, it was discovered that he had everything set to move to Getafe, but the loan deal fell through after his outstanding World Cup. Many important offers have arrived at the Valdebebas offices, and after a period of reflection, a final decision has already been made.

Fabrizio Romano, a popular Italian journalist, has revealed on his X account where Gonzalo García will play next season. It won't be for any team other than Real Madrid, where he came up through the youth ranks and where they want to give him an opportunity with the first team. The decision has been made and he will compete for a spot in the starting eleven with Mbappé and Endrick.

Renewal for Gonzalo García

In this regard, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Real Madrid are in "active talks" to renew Gonzalo García. The idea is for him to stay long term, having shown at the Club World Cup that he has great goal-scoring abilities.

These won't be complicated negotiations. The youth player's current contract ends in 2027 and both parties intend to sign a new long-term deal. He will now have a first-team spot and a new jersey number as well.

Real Madrid's '9'

Because, in addition to the desired renewal, Gonzalo García will be the new owner of the '9' at Real Madrid. Mbappé vacated it after wearing it for just one season, having switched to Modric's '10'.

There have been many internal discussions at Real Madrid about this. Some in the white camp preferred Endrick, while the youth player ultimately won out.

Now, after so much time developing at La Fábrica and being one of its top scorers, Gonzalo García will have the chance to prove his instincts with the "seniors." Xabi Alonso fully trusts his abilities and believes he could be the profile he was looking for to unlock certain matches.

Since his arrival at Santiago Bernabéu, Xabi Alonso has been searching for that famous "Joselu profile" who could offer something different from Mbappé. At times, the chosen one seemed to be Budimir, from Osasuna, but the truth is that the Club World Cup changed everything. Gonzalo García excelled, becoming the top scorer, and has turned his career around 180 degrees: he's staying at Real Madrid, renewing, and will be the new '9'.
